Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MP3 player connectivity and RCD 500

After opening my middle console box to get my wallet I realised there was an AUX IN input at the very bottom, does this work with the RCD 500 (Stock Pirelli headunit)? I had a brief read through the manual but there wasn't any information about it.

Does it simply work by connecting an MP3 player/iPod via a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to it? I didn't really see any buttons on the unit to switch it to AUX IN input though

the button to switch should be the CD button I guess, it is for my ipod connection

Check the manual, the answer is in there. I think you have to enable it through the setup and set the type of input (high or low).

they should have put a 12volt source in there as well. its stupid how u have to plug the mp3/ipod in there, and then have to connect the power out of the console into the 12volt in the coin tray. wires everywhere!!

and yes the CD button is the source button.

ah cheers, i pressed everything but the CD button twice agreed about the 12V source being in the ashtray/cointray. i'm sure they could have added another one in the middle box as they have one in the boot :S
