  • MY08 Jetta Door Closure & Trans Whine

    Hi everyone,

Sorry, I'm new to this fantastic forum & was loooking for some advice. Sorry if these questions have already been answered extensively but there's so much already on this forum that didn't know where to start!

We have an MY08 Jetta and have some issues:
    1. Left rear door doesn't shut tightly - lines up well but sits out by 1/2cm even when latched. Sitting in the back seat there also seems to be a corresponding air leak - is this a common problem with the Jetta and what causes it?
    2. The transmission (auto 6spd ie. not DSG) has developed an intermittent whine, particularly on part throttle applications - difficult to explain but sounds like the whine you hear on the WRC rally cars on telecast - that background higher pitched-whine separate from engine noise
    3. Outside smell still seems to enter the cabin despite when set to recirc - perhaps related to issue 1., though the smell seems to still come through the vents ?related to HVAC issue??? (PS - is there a way of setting the car to recirc without having the fan on - the recirc button isn't functional on ours unless the fan/AC is being used)

Otherwise a fantastic car! Just enough issues to annoy. Thanks lots everyone

    Hey,

I won't be able to help you solve the issues but seeing as it's a MY08, it should still be under new car warranty right?

    Good luck

Thanks Maca! Yep, definitely bringing it up at its next service as warranty issues- was just wondering if these are vehicle-specific issues or a bit more common before discussing with the service people.

Has been a few posts the last few days on both your problems.

This one for the whine which related to the mk6

And this one for the seals

Sorry they don't offer much help with a fix.

Recirc only works with the fan on or no air can recirc as no outside pressure moves air.
Door just sounds like the catch need adjusting. Make sure its tight.
Check for taletales around mounting screws.

Spray glen 20 thru air intake.

Thanks guys for your advice! Will get the service guys to check the latch & seals on that door. In terms of the transmission whine, not too sure about the Mk6 link as that's a DSG involved... wondering if anyone else with the conventional auto 6spd has experienced whine?

Hi Radius, for the rear door, check that the contact plate where the door latches to the body of the car is tightened down. I believe it has to be torqued to some particular specification. I had a problem with this beeing loose on my Jetta, resulting in what appeared to be bad panel fit, though no wind noise issues.

              Cheers,

Thanks again everyone! Our car is a 2.0litre normally aspirated FSI, prior to the current range of twin-charged 1.4L Jetta's. As far as I understand, at the time this was the only Jetta model with a conventional (non-DSG) 6spd auto transmission. The other models available were the 2.0 TDI with DSG and the Turbo with DSG also.

Will check the caltch plate tongiht & make sure it's secure - thanks for the tip!
