But nay. All yours oily.
How do I..?
What's this black thing..?
Should there be a..?
Dear Greg, do you have a spare..?
I think it is very difficult to compare the two without bagging the other.
I say short shifting isn't for me, diesel owners appreciate the torque.

How can it be standard if its got a bluefin? You know whats better...GT TDI with bluefin - 427nm!!!!!
What everyone is failing to mention with the TDI is the incredible fuel economy over the TSI, the superior engine life and the better re-sale value.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

- Difference in fuel economy is?
- Difference in engine life is?
- Depreciation as a percentage & dollars is?
I actually don't think there's a lot in it.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

I can't see a highly tuned twin charged 1.4l lasting longer than 200,000kms whereas you can get over 500,000kms out of the TDi.
Re-sale value difference between the two currently is $1800-$2090 in favour of the TDi which will only increase when the mileage increases.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

What is habitually left out of these conversations is that resale is in favour of the TDI because of a considerable leap in the initial purchase.
It isn't some magic wand that the dirty wizard of particulate has waved over all GT TDIs. "oilimus valumus maximus!"
The TSI was bench tested at over 300,000km by VW before release - there are 30yo MK1s knocking about on this site with less km on it than that...
Do you really care what your car is doing in 25-30 years?
And by the time 500,000km comes around on your TDI, how many of us will be driving a car that actually uses fossil fuel?
How many of us will want to buy one that does?
Keep ridin that sweet wave of diesel resale value!

For what it's worth, I'll tell you why I bought TDI ...
I don't care about performance the way you guys do but I did want more power than my old 1.6L. (2.0L anything would have suited me). I do some country driving and I need to get up hills and overtake without struggling. Note, I didn't say faster - I just don't want to have to be dropping back to 2nd all the time! 2.0L TDI is a huge improvement.
I get a limited car allowance and I fund my vehicle from that so economy was important. If I spend more it comes out of my pocket.
By my calculations, driving 25,000km a year, the additional cost of the TDI (purchase price and more expensive fuel) will be repaid in 18 months through greater fuel economy.
If you plan to do less driving it will take longer to repay you.
So it depends on what you intend to use it for and how you intend to drive it.

It's really been a good laugh reading your posts bitching at eachother..
"The TSI is better"
"No the TDI is better"
All very amusing.
I'll stick with my TDI.. But hey, each to their own, you know...
