  • Radio comes on!

    OK
Lying in bed at 2am, I hear music. Eventually it drives me mad so I get up to see who's having the all-nighter only to find it's my radio that has come on by itself. Car was locked with no keys in the ignition. This has happened a few times now. Anyone else had this?

LOL!! How freaky, that also happened to me today...

I left my car in the garage (with keys in the 'off' position') and the radio spontaneously came on. My car is sooo Hot n Cold when it comes to these things.. (coincidentally, that's the song that came on lol).

If you know someone with Vagcom/VCDS do a scan and see what errors are there. The headunit is being sent a command to start up, could be a faulty gateway or could be a faulty ignition module.

That happened to my Golf as well. Furtunately the car was under new car warranty and the Dealer replaced the Radio.

there are many reports of the radio turning on by itself, on the various forums.
no idea how to fix it (as i assume you are now out of warranty with an 05).

I got a feeling that the only fix was to replace the radio. Thats what the dealers did on mine.
If he whats I have an RCD 300mp3 version that I am looking at selling. I doubt the 06 models had MP3 capabilities on their radios.

i wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
it would be possible that the gateway might be faulty or possibly even the ign switch itself, but most likely the radio will be replaced.

i have a stock standard RCD300 (non mp3) sitting here doing nothing, if it's of any use to someone.
was gonna list it on fleabay, but figured it's probably not worth anything.....
