  • Wheels And Suspension On Gti

Hi GUys I have just picked up my GTI and now looking at changing the wheels.
What will the ride be like with 19" wheels am looking at the lenso speed 6 wheels, or the other option is i put 18" copy of the GTI wheels now
and also looking at putting on eibach springs to lower it a little.
What will my ride be like and how will my handling change, im happoy with comfort and handling now with standard springs and 17" wheels, but want bigger wheels and wouldnt mind looking a little diffrent.

what are your thoughts guys and if you have a golf with 18" or 19" wheels please post your pics up. lowered or not and specfy if lowered or not.

will my car look ridicolous if i put 18" without lowering??

Do the GTI Pirellis have different suspension as they have 18" rims compared to the 17"s on the normal MKV GTI?

when you lower it the ride will be bumpy and sharp. the car will look lower but you'll get a sore back/ass in the process.

the stock shocks will blow out with eibach springs so you need new shocks too.
springs + shocks = ~1k au (see redline-motorworks.com for a package) I run koni fsd's and eibach springs, I like the look of it, but the ride is somewhat ****house. faster in the corners but painful on long bumpy drives

Put whatever rims you want on it - you said you wanted to change the stock wheels.

C'mon, guys - he didn't ask for a critique on the rims he's picked out. only what size to choose.

One day we'll all end up on 18" RS4 reps (graphite, of course)...

                  ...just don't choose these:

will it look ridiculous if you put 18's without lowering? hmmmm not as ridiculous as other cars because the GTI is already quite low compared to other cars (my old honda accord euro had a 6 finger gap at the front wheels and a 5 finger gap at the rear STANDARD) The gti has about a 3-3.5 finger gap if i remember correctly?

if you're going for looks....19's. if u want a little more practicality, 18's.
18's seem like a good compromise.

oh and PLEASE dont get lenso's. Nothing against them, just those rims u picked out suck IMO. You see them on lancers and excels etc. Don't put them on a GTI. It's a nice car. Don't ruin it with wheels like that.

And regarding your denvers but in 18's, why would you want to get the same look rim but just a bigger size? If you're going to change teh wheel, you might as well get another spoke pattern altogether and make it 'unique'. Thats my thinking anyway. It's kinda like you eating a large big mac meal at mcdonalds here, then going to the states and then trying THEIR large big mac meal (FYI, our LARGE meals are considered REGULAR size over there). If you're in the states, you might as well try something we don't get over here. Same deal with the wheels. If you're gonna change the wheels, you might as well change it with a diff spoke pattern and so on......

Mate change to any design wheel YOU wish, YOUR car YOUR choice

Keep your standard 17's so when it comes time to sell you can place them back onto the car!

Just do us a favour and get decent rubber on the new wheels, as alot of places package crap rubber with wheels as a deal

Edit: if you see a blue r32 with roof racks give me a wave - i live around the corner

                        wheels

Hi guys thanks for all the info,
Nathan will see you on the road mate mine is a red GTI my plates are JCG1 which are on my grey TT Roadster at the moment so will take them off the TT and have them on the Golf in the next week.
Anyway I have found out that Lenso is not available for the VW anyway as the offset is not enough or something.
So i think i will go with 18" wheels but undecided as to which way I will go.
I had a Bora once before and put eibach springs under that and the ride did not change at all, but only changed when i put 18: on the bora.
i was wondering if the gti is the same

I have 19x9s on stock suspension on my car. The ride was fine with 235s on them. In fact I think the stock 17" ride a lot more jittery probably due to their lighter weight.

On stiff suspension it may be a different story.

Ebay is always the best place to buy rims. There are so many Audi owners that upgrade and sell off OEM rims very cheaply. Much better than getting cheap replicas.

Im getting my coilovers installed soon. And with the car low these wheels may not fit anymore. So they maaaaaay be up for sale.
