  • MK5 R32 delivered this afternoon

Just took delivery of my R32, silver 5 door. Only did 12 km in it so far but planning a long drive on Sunday.

The sound is brilliant, but i'm trying very hard to control myself while the car is being "run in". However i have read on some other forums that it is far worse to baby the car then to drive it spiritedly.

Does anyone have any info on this, would be a great help.

The manual details the run in procedure, don't maintain constant engine speed, vary it by changing gear or speed, put the engine under load, don't baby the engine and don't thrash it.

Thanks Maverick, always the last thing to do; read the manual. I can't wait to cut her loose. After 1,500 km i think the HPA DSG and ECU upgrade will be necessary.

Question, i plugged in the IPOD into the aux input but the sound is terrible. It's not the mp3 file itself as it is CD quality. I am using the standard IPOD input, didn't go the option but may have to if this is the only way to get improved sound out of stereo from the IPOD.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

Well done with the new 'R'

Just drive it normally without beating it.
This new into ownership I wouldnt be worried about ipod sound or engine and cpu flashes. Strewth youve only done 12
It will go better as it gets kk's on it.
Only thing to do is to block the vacummn hose going to the right hand exh outlet (flapper mod) so you get that great exh sound ALL the time

        Prev 2008 R32 3 door DSG.
        Prev 2010 S3 Sportback Stronic.
        Now Lexus IS350 F Sport

I know. Already looking towards the upgrades. Wont do anything crazy though.

Read up about the flapper mod last night. Not sure about the best way to do it. A dab of silicon seems like the best and cleanest option.

But the IPOD sound is important, why have the aux in point if it sounds rubbish??!

What headunit do you have? The RCD500? There should be an option in the headunit to change the input from high to low, try doing that.

If that's the RNS 510 it's either under audio setup or media setup. It'll say AUX IN or similar and have hi/lo option.

Sound still no good, will take it to the tech to sort out. Thanks for the advice though.

Yes this is correct, changed to the high option, still sounds terrible. Having said that the speakers are not the best to be honest. Thank God for the exhaust note.

I haven't been able to control myself to be honest. Have not been thrashing it but have gone over 4k.

No not yet, there are a number of ways to do it, which way did you mod the flapper?

I am leaning towards a bit of silicon to fill the hole, but i might try it out first with a bull clip.

Any idea if it results in better or worse fuel economy or no change?
