  • Anyone chipped their MK5 R32?

Just wondering if anyone has chipped their MK5 R32 and if so what your impressions were of the change?

Not looking for cost vs benefit as am aware of the price and also the gains when compared to those of a GTI etc. I have seen that APR have just released a chip though and am happy to spend the money if the difference is noticeable so just after some first hand experience of the change.

    Cheers,

    Dan

chipped with GIAC and it is great.

increased throttle response and strong pull through out entire rev range.

not a massive increase like the GTIs but it is stronger.

now all i need is the DSG flash to match!

What does the DSG flash give you?

          increased/removed torque limit
          higher shift points/redline
          faster shift speeds

i think there is a whole info thing on Tim's website on www.dubaddiction.com.au

Hey Dan, NA won't produce heaps extra (as Big Yellow mentioned) but is worth it IMO as it gives you that bit more power across the entire range, and driveability is better with nicer throttle control. It's the first and last thing you can really do on an N/A before spending a lot of money (airbox is good too and fairly cheap, makes a good sound).

I've got the new APR one which has some cool security features if you get the fully loaded one. It's a better deal than the older DMS retune which didn't include any of the other programs/switching.

They may be doing a 100 RON program in the near future which would be good for track days perhaps (wont cost any extra). A few people have got the Revo one and claim it was worse than stock so wouldn't recommend that one.

Not sure on the DSG flash, I've got a 6MT but wouldn't do it myself till the car is out of warranty- not saying it's bad just woulnd't mess with DSG given some people are having issues with the mechatronics. Best to read up on it yourself first anyway.

              Cheers,

Hi mate, have you had the car dyno'd since the APR chip went in? What type of KW gains do you roughly expect?

ive seen first hand standard Vs GIAC chip between two r32's.. pulled away nicely

Hi mate, I got a Dyno done in 2WD mode (temp disconnecting the haldex) - will have to dig up the dynos tonight.

p.s. Also have the Harding Headers which made a nice difference and the latest power addidition giving ~147-149kW at all four wheels.

(Note drive train losses are approx 30% awd and 20% fwd).

Haven't seen many Giac Dynos, anyone done one?

Lot of new posters lately.. when did you get the R32 VWR032?

The dyno after the DMS retune was 142kW at the front wheels, and the APR one is about the same maybe 2kw more (on a dyno dynamics). Keep in mind you can't always compare dynos (can be out by 15kw).

Thanks G-rig, exactly what I was after.

Had the R for just over 18 months now so in need of a bit of an increase The NSW APR agent is just up the road from where I work as well so will most likely go the APR path.

Can I ask what sort of airbox you put on yours?

I got the BMC CDA (carbon) airbox, fully sealed so totally legal. Doesn't make a ridiculous induction noise like some of them but at least is one of the ones that do something besides sound.

                        Cheers,

I too have recently put in a BMC filter - where did you place your CAI snorkel?

Goes down near where the fog lights would be, with a hole cut out.
