  • 7500km interval service price?

    Hi guys

I just got my 7500 interval service done on my jetta (If you ask me why, it's because I wanted to and its a personal preference. I've done it to all my cars so far). I changed my oil and oil filter only.

Anyone else who has done a 7500km interval service...how much did it cost you for an oil and oil filter change?

(i just want to compare prices to see if I should go to another VW service centre)

I posted my price earlier in another thread. Why the secrecy? If you got reamed you may as well talk about it, might make you feel better

Hey Mav, do you change your oil & filter every 7500km or so?

Yes, feel more comfortable with the interim oil change so every six months/7500 oil and filter get done at the dealer where I do my regular servicing.

It will be the same price as a 15,000km service as it's the same job. Price will be $280-$350.

                At a guess:
                Oil filter $18
                Washer $2
                Oil $95
                Environmental levy $7
                Workshop supplies $8
                Labour 2hrs @ 90 = $180
                GST $32

edit: I'm not implying this is good value, fair or reasonable. Just saying what/why they have bent you over.

Why not get your intermediate oil change done by a non-VW workshop?
Oil might be cheaper as VW are probably using 504.00LL when 502.00 is sufficient.
labour would be more like 1.0-1.5@$80 (depends what part of the country you live in - regional areas might be as low as $60/hr).

Why? You're not getting the service done, just an oil change which is part of the service.

My dealer charges me around $150 for an oil change and this is using a 504.00/507.00 oil, filter, disposal etc. Oh and a loan car as well.

Because they don't do much else besides change the oil & filter at 15,000km. Sure, they check fluid levels, lights & have a peek at the brakes with the wheels still on but that takes 5 minutes.

How could your dealer do oil, filter + labour for $150? What's the break-up on the bill? Is that a city or a regional dealer?

If you take a look at the checklist of what they do at the 15k service there is a fair bit of work there. I'd guess around 1 to 1.5 hours looking at the list.

City dealer. The price they gave me before hand was ~$145 with them supplying the oil and $26 for the oil filter. The price when I picked the car up was $149.20. This included 1/2 hour of labour $110/hour.

I paid $300.50 for the 15k service which tallies up with my estimation of time above.

I got quoted $184 from a dealer to do a half year oil and filter change, and that was with me supplying the oil!

Fair enough, I guess half the stuff there can be left out.

I would never have let any of my guys do an oil change without checking all the other fluid levels, inflate tyres, check lights, wipers & a quick look at brakes. I guess if the customer doesn't want that then it's their choice.

City dealer. The price they gave me before hand was ~$145 with them supplying the oil and $26 for the oil filter. The price when I picked the car up was ~$155. This included 1/2 hour of labour $110/hour.

i can't quite see how your dealer can make money at that price...
                          $155
                          -GST $14 = $141
-labour $55 = $86 half an hour is one hell of a quick oil change IMO
                          -parts $26 = 60
                          - 504.00 oil = $60 - sounds very cheap.
They don't charge to get rid of the waste or for shop sundries?
And they don't charge for a loan car?

                          You must have them scared.

just buy the oil filter and own oil that meets VW specs, i.e. Castrol Edge Sport or whatever..

say $50 for the oil ($30 on special ), $25 for the oil filter.

just do it yourself, its easy.

otherwise ask the local workshop, they shouldn't charge you more than $40 to do it.

                            it takes 15mins max.

This is purely an oil change in between services, I'm not fussed about them checking anything else and if they do that's a bonus.

The price includes shop sundries and waste disposal. They buy the oil in bulk so I'd be guessing around $40-45 for the oil as the price I had for 20 litres of Mobil 504.00/507.00 oil was around $220 and it was cheaper again for the bigger drum (~200 litres I think it was).

The car was purchased from them and it will get all it's services from them. The free loan car seems fairly standard across dealer servicing, I guess it's a different story for some manufacturers that target the budget end.
