Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have a hole in the cloth on the drivers side - can't help short legs. Should get mine fixed shortly as part of my company detailing the car before I buy it.
My question was "Where r u going to get ur short legs fixed?" LOL

(Actually, the reason I don't have it is because the wife and I are vegetarians)

...and that's one thing I love about VW making leather an option in most of their vehicles. Besides, how can you not like the GTI's cool Interlagos design fabric!
Thats funny. I must be your opposite.
I would never buy a car without leather.
I had 1kg of ribs then a 300g eye fillet at squires loft last night. That in itself must have freed up some leather for use somewhere.
The interlagos is perhaps the most horrific fabric ever seen in a car built post the 70's.

I love the leather, but the tartan looks great as well imo, and feels totally normal for me coming straight from a mk2 with red/black/grey tartan. I really like the throwback to the classic design. The tyre print & yellow stitching in the Pirelli is my least favorite.

I have no issues with my cloth after almost 20000k's, But most of my driving
is long distance so would not be in and out the car like some.

More than I can say for my floor mat which had heal wear marks after about 2000k's.

I blame my dad - he pulled out too quick

I am lucky though - they just reach the ground.

Yes, we have a MKV GTI. Now this is where it gets interesting. Most manufacturers use synthetic leather-like materials in place of leather on steering wheels and gearknobs because they are extremely high-wear areas. I'm pretty sure the GTI falls into this category.

The steering wheel is real leather (wash your hands after using!) and the gear knob is leather whereas the hand brake is leatherette.
