Feedback from USERS of Reflashes

Last night I had my MkV Golf GTI ECU reflashed with the GIAC product. My decision to go this was was based on cost, local support, and some digging around I did on this and other forums. My first impressions are that it is absolutely great. Poor old traction control really gets a work out now. Feels much much stronger everywhere and I'm very happy. I have a fairly well modified GTR skyline and have never had a single mod that made such a difference and the performance feel last night driving home was such that I actually questioned why I bother having the GTR. (I drove the GTR this morning and now I remember though...).

I spent much time researching the various options and to my mind there are various pros and cons with each way of going. To be frank I found many of these types of threads way too populated by those who have an interest in selling things and therefore found it really hard to get hold of objective and unbaised feedback on various products.

So, for the sake of those wanting to look into these types of products, post up your personal experiences here, but only do so if you are not in the trade, are a paying customer and having nothing to sell. If not then please stay off this thread (no offence intended).

I'll post up more information as the tune settles and I get some more miles racked up.

I also went giac for after sales support cause the dealer is close and the price was awesome. If u only got it done last night give it a couple days to settle in!!!!!! Make sure u drive it hard and it will be so much better by next week

What do you want to know? Really all you're going to get is personal opinions on the tunes and at the end of the day all they do is give similar amounts of power increases. Some have extra features, some have local support, some have no support, some have phone/email support. Some are $X, some at $Y, some have options and some are basic, there's different levels of development and so on and so forth.

If you search the threads you'll find all this info, the quality of the info declines as you read further into the threads until they're closed. You have a tune, you're happy with it so unless you want to be told that you made the right choice I really don't see what you hope to achieve with this thread that hasn't been covered before.

I don't want to know anything at this stage. I've made my decision and am happy with it. I perosnally found there was a lack of quality information on the topic so it's for the sake of those who are going to be making decisions. It's not about this one versus that one, but encouraging good detailed descriptions of the change in performance experienced.

If this is of no use by all means (mods) close it but having gone throught this myself I wish I had more quality info (I personally don't there was was much at all). If others feel similar I'm sure they'll post, or the thread will die a natural death. Fine either way to me.

i went through all this early last year.
best advice i can give to anyone (stating the obvious) is to do some homework. Ring up the people who supply and install it... talk to them at length about what you want - not only now but possible future mods - and then decide for yourself what you feel is the best flash to suit your car and you.
i went with APR for my jetta and have never regretted it. love the change in the car and am looking to go APR with our polo GTI. Dealer was great, took the time to talk about it and future mods, giving advice on what mods were best and in what order they should be done etc. invite to track days and driver training courses also a bonus.

I visited a remapper today and they were really informative and courteous. If I decide to go ahead, i'm definately choosing these guys as not only were they incredibly professional and genuine, they seem to provide an outstanding amount of local support (and that's important to me).

This thread is a great idea for people (like me) wanting to gain some personal insight on the upgrades. Great idea LotusGTI

I also think this is a good thread, I´m in the process of choosing a remap for our new GTI but am tired of looking at dyno charts and reading vendor KW gain claims.

What I´m interested to learn is how it changes the car in everyday driving, for example the remap on my previous car made it much more responsive, a tad more economical and smoothed out the power delivery.

I´m personally looking for more responsiveness, particularly low down and smoother, more linear power delivery. I´m also toying between the DIY units and going to a garage.

Already posted this elsewhere but I may as well repeat -

Got a Bluefin in my MK5 GT TDI. Chose it because the price was low, loved the fact I could do it myself and that I can revert back to factory spec if I want and back to tuned easily.

Found that the acceleration has become highly aggressive promoting heaps of traction loss. launching the car is extremely difficult now due to the increase in torque at very low revs. Idle is a little more rough - you can feel the vibration in the car more. The DPF clogs up more often and fuel consumption has increased by about 0.8-1L/100km

I'm glad this thread is open. Interested hearing from owners with Giac and Revo who have done some timings on say 0 -100 and 400m time differences from a before and after perspective. Please no sermons on "its how it feels to drive" i know this but i want a happy mix of both.
