  • How thirsty is an R32?

I was set on a MkV Golf GTI having excluded my first choice of an R32 because of the large price difference but reading threads here it seems that a used R32 is a good option. That being so what fuel consumption are you R32 owners getting out there? I do mostly city driving with very little highway runs so I would be interested to hear what your city figures are and your worst figures over a week/month (not just the computer readout after 2 minutes).

I get about ~430km's filling up around 50 litres. That is with alot of city driving and a good fang most days. I was quite surprised, my previous 2Litre V6 FTO vehilce did alot worse than that, and I was expecting it to be the other way around.

If I did regular driving, I reckon EASY 500KM's to the tank around town. I got ~600km driving from Brisbane to Newcastle free way action.

Thanks for the replies. I have since found other similar threads so rather than repeat and annoy anyone I'll leave it at that. Seems that the figures are very respectable for a V6 and not too dissimilar to the GTI.

I get pretty similar economy figures, with the MFD showing 610km (initially) from when i fill the tank, to 440km on the tripometer when ive completely emptied it.

Car gets unfortunately driven alot on the peak hour grind, so economy isnt the greatest.

My wife has had ours down to 7.7l/100km

I can't crack 8.2l/100km. Can get really nasty when you bury the right foot....usually happens at least once when I am i it.

I had it down to 7.0l/100 on one trip. I was praying for it to tick over into the 6's but I hit a hill and never got it back down to 7.0l/100.

Best I did on one 99 hour cycle was 8.5l/100 which was a lot of country driving. Combined city/highway cycle at the moment is 9.5l/100.

Well comparatively a VR6 will get around 400 per tank, and closer to around 320 when footing it, so you R's are doing pretty well by my standards

I've got exactly the same car as yours but has Tom's computer in it. I only manage around the city and a bit of highway for close to 400Km - and that's taking it pretty easy. Mind you, the figure comes out to be around 13.5 l/100Km, so the R32 is still about 30% more economical.

When hammered, I'd be lucky to get 280Km out of a 60l tank

But the grin factor is huge though
