VW Roadside Assistance Extension

Had my Vdub Golf GTI for nearly 3 years now... I've called roadside assistance once in that 3 years - due to a faulty battery.

Anyway, 3 years is nearly up and VWA has sent me a renewal notice for the Volkswagen Assist.

Cost is $68.75 for the standard service (similar to RACV's basic roadside assistance) or $99 for the premium service.

Should I go

Standard?, Premium? or just go with RACV ($76).? or don't even bother about it?

I'll go for the premium, do you have more details about the each?, I think 100dls it's ok for a road assistance, just thinking in get stuck in the middle of nowhere it's ok for me,

You will receive help in the event of a breakdown or accident and, if required, your vehicle will be mobilised or transported to a Volkswagen authorised workshop. Don't go with the Volkswagen Roadside assistance, all they care about is getting your vehicle to VW dealer for another paying workshop job and leave you stranded behind. They won't organise taxi or transport for you the driver, just the vehicle.

Go with RACV total care - talking from experience - they organised 2 taxis, 1 for the wife & kids to back home and 1 for me to AVIS rent-a-car with a Commodore ready apon my arrival, free of charge for 24 hrs, all this on a Sunday broken down in Healesville.

Yup. Plus with the higher end packages they will cover you for any vehicle you drive (well, RACQ does and I'd imagine RACV is similar) plus any driver of the one listed on the policy.

So if do it right, you can have 2 cars covered by it. Just put your most unreliable car on the policy, and put it in the name of the person who drives either car most often.
