Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First love mark on the Jetta

Tonight while reversing into a car spot, I thought it'd be fun to hit a pole.

I know it's a bad pic and I'll post a better one when I get a chance, but the valance is actually punctured just above the reflector (only got it replaced 1.5 months ago). Luckily there isn't any panel damage and most of the white paint came off with some plastic cleaner, although some of it will need buffing. The bumper itself is a little misaligned but that's only due to the pressure the warped valance is putting on it (I hope).

It would've helped if I had 2 reverse lights (it's easier to determine the distance judging by the light) but I simply misjudged the distance. Oh, and the parking sensors didn't come on at all . The constant beep came on only after I hit the pole. I know it's called Park Assist, but they didn't assist me at all tonight. They're not faulty either - I tested them once I got home and they work fine.

My question is, how hard would it be to obtain a colour coded valance often found on the TFSI's as a replacement?

Looks more like a royal rogering than a love tap.

The reverse sensor looks like it was pointing right at that pole. Brings into question how the reverse sensors project a beam at the rear of the car, I'd have thought its biggest advantage would be to spot poles and such that aren't obvious to someone reversing.

Can't help you with your question but good luck with it.

What is going on with all these damaged Jetta threads.
But the threads saved mine yesterday.
I have deliberately left the Jetta in the shed the last week using the old ute.

Yesterday I had a lump of coal come off a coal truck penetrating the windscreen of the ute.
If it was not for all these damaged Jetta threads it would have been the Jetta.

Have you tried recreating the incident to see why the parking censor was not
          screaming at you.

                  Quote came in just before:
$1,100 for "the way it was"
$2,250 for coded valance... Doesn't seem worth it atm considering I may want to kit it out in the next year or two..

And it's gotta be in the workshop for 4 days

It was... But it still didn't trigger it for some reason. At least that sensor still works though, I'd hate to see the bill if I was to replace one of those!

Alex.... great to see the sensor "still working" despite you hitting the pole due
                        to no constant warning sound.

normally not one to pick up on spelling or grammar because mine is bad enough but your one paragraph made me smile after having to read it a few times.
