Lower Torque Arm Insert

Anyone know if the engine mount on my GT TDi is the same as that on the GTi because I'm having trouble fitting my recently bought APR Torque Arm insert. I was told it would fit but when I tried to push the new mount into the existing mount it didn't really fit. It was extremely tight, like as if the mount was 1mm too big. I managed to get about half of it in there before I nearly my pants from pushing so hard but couldn't get any more of it in. I tried to use lots of lubrication ( this is starting to sound bad ) but still no good. Decided to pull it out before I do any damage.

Is it meant to be so tight?

I don't want to have to pay the $80 they charged me to do this (what seemed like ) simple installation.

It should be spot on for the GT TDI, Now its best done on a hoist - or on good axle stands or ramps. Its a firm fit (by design) and using the supplied grease, you may need to hammer it in with a large flat rubber mallet (or regular hammer & block of wood).

What year is your car? there may have been a change in the mount in early 2009 (they changed the shape of the mount) as in the Pirelli GTI's & MKVI. If it is indeed the case yours has a different shape, we will arrange a swap for you!

Poyta, can you post when you get the damn thing in, and comment on how much the idle vibration has increased. I have a MY07 Jetta TDI and was thinking about this insert to reduce the amount the engine flops around but am worried about bad idle vibrations.

Are you a DSG TDI or manual.
Aparantly with the TDI you'll want to pull it out again due to the vibration increase.

I've got a 2007 model Mk5 VW GTsports TDI and its a manual - the vibrations sound like a concern as I've already got vibrations at idle without it even in yet but I also get heaps of axle tramp when it wheel spins.

I didn't get any grease with the mount but like I said I used lubrication and it didn't go in. I was reluctant to start hammering the thing in.

In the APR mount there are three sections that insert in the existing mount- two little bits at the bottom that look like arrows and a large sweeping arc section at the top. The APR's sweep is smooth while my sweeping arc in the existing engine mount has a small section about 1mm sqaure that protrudes like a key - this is causing an interference fit. I wonder if thats the problem.

Gee, I dont really want to first pay for the item, then pay the pro's to install it to later find out I need to remove it ( probably have to pay again ) cause I'm not happy with it.

if your car is an 07' - its the correct mount.

Use plenty of grease & hammer it in.

If you need to remove it, you just have to carefully lever it down with large, flat blade screwdrivers!

By stiffening any type of mount, you increase vibration - the rougher the engine - worse it is.

Worse = 1.9 tdi > 2.0 TDI > GT TDI > Twincharger > 2.0 Turbo!

Well sorry it took so damn long to get the insert in but I finally put the APR lower arm insert into my GT TDi and can now report on the difference. Definatelly more vibration in the car but only when she's cold in the morning - start up really shakes the car into life ( it was very concerning at first ) and then the car keys go into this harmonic vibration from the vibrations. Take off when cold is very touchy- no longer very absorbed or fluid like - more like a racing clutch has been installed. This is all goes away after the engine warms up within about 5 minutes though and then its very similar to before. If the car goes into DPF regen mode or the compressor kicks in for aircon you can feel the change in revs more ( kind of bangs ) but apart from that it not too bad. The traction is the biggest surprise now - not only is the axle tramp completely gone but it seems to grip a lot better. Whereas before it would spin like crazy and axle tramp all the way through first gear and the again spin in 2nd and sometimes chirp in 3rd I now spin off the line smooth and slamming it into 2nd only brings a small chirp. Too bad I never took any proper 0-100 times before and after because I swear she'd be so much quicker just because its easier to launch. Fantastic cheap modification that everyone should buy!!! Highly recommended. Hell its always removable so if you don't like it you can take it out. I think I'll leave mine in till its time to sell the car. Some buyers may mistake the extra vibration as something concerning.
