  • Auto Dimming Rear Mirror

    Guys/ Gals,

Just a quik check. I had my car in for it's 15k service and told the service guys to check the interior auto dimming rear mirror as it didnt seem to be working.

Long story short, i was told that the Golf GT TSI did NOT have the auto dimming feature enabled??? is this true? or just a fob off?

    Thanks in advance.

I think mine does (it has the little button on the underside of the mirror and the green light, I don't seem to get dazzled by traffic behind, and the mirror seems darker than the side mirrors )

yeh thor, button is there and i have had it switched on. however, as i was driving around the other night it didn't seem to be working so i flickd it on and off a couple of times and it didnt seem to change at all...

from memory i recall the stealer showing me the auto dimming feature as a standard option at the time of picking up my car. but now i'm being told otherwise...

x2, if your rear view mirror has the button and a little green light when on, then you know you have the auto dimming mirror or not.

Did the mirror ever dim? Surely you would have noticed this in 15,000km's of driving? What MY is your car? 08?

If the green light is on the auto-dimming function is theoretically in operation. However, mine has this auto-dimming mirror and it's less than satisfactory IMO - I'd much prefer a std day/night mirror. It could be that yours is as inefficient as mine

You got fobbed off.. if you don't have auto-dimming, then you should have a lever that flicks the mirror upwards. If you only have a button, then you've got auto-dimming... - but you don't really need to check, because everyone here knows that the GT has auto-dimming mirrors. It was a standard feature.

Which dealer did you go to?

It doesn't dim immediately like a conventional mirror would - it takes a few seconds to gradually dim. But it's something you could test easily with a flashlight - just put a finger over the forward-facing sensor on the mirror and shine the flashlight into the mirror side. It should gradually dim (it will take 4 or 5 seconds).

if you test it duriing the day you only need to cover the sensor at the front of the mirror with your finger and you will see the mirror darken.

You've definately been fobbed off. Unless if it has the knob to manually change the mode it's an auto..
