  • Jetta servicing woes...

Ok. This post isn't to rant, it's to get clarification & advice, especially from those in the know and have been around a while. I'll keep it to the point as much as I can. Please read as I want to know, where to from here? Do I have a right to be sherty, and who should I have a grizzle to?

My Jetta now has 2300km on it and has been back to the dealers for warranty repairs twice (500km of which has been spent so far treking to & fro the dealer for the repairs). I now have to go back a third time. Argh.

When I originally picked up the car I soon noticed the boot light was not working, air leaking in through two of the doors & wrong headlamp switch (+ few other small things). Booked into dealer with a one weeks notice (and after advice here) emailed servicing with pics and part numbers and they pre-ordered the correct headlamp switch. When I dropped it off, they installed new switch but didn't work as it should and identified wrong wiring loom to front foglamps had been installed. Also said, yes, air is leaking in through two of your doors. They said come back again and they'll have the seals and an auto elec will fix the wiring.

Gave them three weeks noticed and turned up today and (beforehand) they told me it would take most of the day. Drop off at 9:45am and it's ready at 5:30pm. Foglamps finally work correctly and centre vent rattle is fixed. They said they could only do one door seal as they didn't have the other one. When I asked, they said they didn't have time to drive and check the seals were working as they should. I drive away and the door they "fixed" well it's worse and now rattles as well. I cannot believe it took over 7 hours to fix a wiring loom and take a door off/on + seal (which hasn't worked).

I worst thing regarding this unavailable seal is that when I dropped the car off in the morning one of the servicing middlemen said to another, "oh is this Jase's parts (switch and wiring loom) well where's the door seals?", "oh, they'll be in spare parts". Well obviously not.

I never get any paperwork to keep regarding the warranty work. Is this normal? I would love to have seen the labour time they actually spent. It seems as if there is little sense of urgency at this dealership regarding warranty work.

I should point out that I trotted over there today almost empty as the sales consultant said on my last visit that he would fill the car with diesel and the dealership would cover it - due to all the problems I was having. He was true to his word although they did it at a dedicated truck filling station (eek). It's the least they could do I reckon.

What should I do from here? Ring the Sales Manager up or do I speak to the Dealer Principle? I'm guessing the DP knows part of my plight as they probably had to give the nod for the free tank of fuel. And what should I say to them? Do I need to take the car home if it's still broken or can I insist they keep it till it's repaired and take a loaner?

I was a bit silly to think the front fogs were actually fixed...

Either the wiring is wrong or the coding is.

Just played around with headlamp switch. Whilst on parkers, pull once means front fogs are on, and should it be really foggy a second pull turns the front xenons on.

You have got to be kidding me. I feel like

I would try to get a replacement car and at the same time talk to DP.. good luck, all these issues sound very strange for a new car...

hate to say this, but welcome to VW Ownership... great cars to drive, fantastic material quality, shoddy build quality.

Hence why so many of us option for the Extended Warranty..

That doesnt sound like the sort of service I am used too.
Also very dissapointing on a brand new car
Send me a pm of the dealers name and Ill give you a contact at mine. (hope its different)
I would write the issues down (similar wording to your post above) and send to the Dealer principle and service mngr.
I would ask for a resolution in writing before I drive all the way from Mansfield to Melbourne.

...perhaps even call them before you next go in to get a guarantee they are ready to perform the required work and what they will do about it / for you if it isn't done satisfactorily...very frustrating on a new car...

My local service (Burwin) have been top notch and I have had a few niggles. Just had 60,000km service done yesterday (ouch).

            good luck with it.

Mmm the 60K service is major and if you've got a DSG it's particularly expensive.

              Just an update:
Decided to write an email to the Service Manager and CC'd to the DP. I said next thursday for further repairs suits me and that I would like "their personal assurance that when I come in next week that all appropriate parts will be available, my vehicle will actually be test driven once attempts at repairs are undertaken, that no air entry noise will originate from any of the doors, and that the fog lamps / headlamp switch will operate as per the owners’ manual."

No phone call or return email but we'll see what happens tomorrow.
