  • Front suspension rattling

Ever since i put GTI springs on my TDI, there has been a rattling/knocking noise coming from the front suspension. I believe it occurs when there is a rapid extension of the shocks (ie going over rough surfaces rather than dips in road etc). Has anyone else experienced this? I am looking at getting petrol-model strut tops as a possible cure, but any input would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey that rings a bell.

My TDI does that too. Usually on something like speedbumps at the point of rapid extension after compression while entering them and again, at the point of rapid extension while exiting.

Never got to find out what causes it. Got the dealer to look at it a couple of times when I used to get it serviced there. Once they tightened things up and it was good but only for 6 months. They said some bolts were under torqued but I couldn't get out of them which ones they were. Would love to find out of course.

    Hope someone can suggest.

Mate there was something about the gti springs binding up, was dependant on the colour markings on the actual spring from factory.
Does it sound like an alloy on alloy movement or?

I have the same problem.. Only without fitting GTI springs.

I started a thread on it today called "Worrying Sound".

This is a common thing. My mrs and I find it is worst in the mornings and starts to die down as the car gets used.

It sounds that it is a creaking in my case.

thats pretty much exactly what it sounds like...either the coil winding up too much, or maybe even the LCA hitting a sway bar or something
