  • Parkers Led's

    Hi guys,

I'm a little frustrated lately with my parker ligths, yes....stupid I know!!!, I bought them twice with not luck to get them work,

1st set the leds didn't power on,
2nd set they power on only for 5 seconds, plus the light alarm alarm always on in my dashboard,

Do I'm buying the wrong stuff V's and W's?

The funny thing is, that those dodgy one from supercheap work!!!

Who knows which Volt's and Watt's the Led's must be?

    Thanks!

    You need 12V and 5W.

Did you reverse the first set as they can only go in one way unlike a normal incandescent globe.

The second set may have drawn too much or too little power and been shut down by the light diagnostics.

What are you trying to achieve? Just buy the Philips W5W globes from www.powerbulbs.com as LED's are not designed to work in that fitting and won't product the correct spread of light, the incandescent globe spreads light out in all directions whereas with LED's they are very directional.

The only problem I had with Polarg is that the light output is way down on the Philips, I don't thing I wrote it down but the Philips is down about 10% (due to the coating) and the Polarg was around 40% or more.

Only a minor point however but the Philips IMO gave off a very similar colour with minimal reduction in lumens. I fitted the Polarg lights in all the interior light fittings and couldn't be happier as they're a nice white light but not as bright as the factory halogens.

These globes are free if you purchase some headlight globes from them, the osram nightbreaker puts out more light that the OEM globes and is a good buy.

I have some info on my install here and also some technical info on the globes here.

              Hi all

Im just looking at this page:

W5W (501) - Car Bulbs - Headlight Bulbs from Power Bulbs

Why are the 6000k LEDs so much more ?
What is so special about these parkers?

I thought we can't run LED for parkers?

I run LEDs for parkers in a MY07 Jetta TDI. Just go on ebay and look for W5W LEDs CAN-BUS

They stick a 330 ohm surface mount resistor on the LED board to fool the cold diagnostics.
These are the ones I have: 2 Car Bulbs CAN-BUS T10 8-LED SMD White Turn/Tail Light | eBay

They're probably not quite as bright as a real 5W incandescent bulb but the colour makes them much more visible. Given that my headlights (HID) are usually on Auto it's very rare that I have parkers only on anyway. Looks like the pictures below (note that I also coded the blinkers to come on at 5% intensity with the parkers, thats why half is orange).

Just make sure you get bulbs the same size as the stock ones, I made that mistake and had to drill a large hole at the bottom of my headlight to get the LED bulb out -_-

I tried a few cheaper ones and they all caused bulb-out alerts, despite claiming not to. The ones I linked to are ones that I know work properly. They've been there for a year now and are still fine.

I would point out that they're not super bright. I'd guess about equal to the original halogen lamps. The colour makes them more visible so you gain a bit there.

Anyone have any tips on how to change the Passengers side PArker?
I just cant get the bulb out of the housing..
The drivers side was easy as .. but the passengers is impossible! I've tried to put some plyers up there too to try and pinch the bulb out but no way I can work in that tight space..

I've considered pulling on the 2 wires but worries ill snap them right out of the holder.

Theres just so little space to get my hand in there and its got all cuts and numb bits from trying to work at awkward angles.
                          no nice..

                          Any tips?

Yeah I've got big hands and it's a pain, the air filter on the TDI is right there. Just pull and twist and it will come out eventually.

You can also take the whole headlight unit out with a few screws but i've never gone down that line.

Lol .. I cant even get a grip on the end of the plug.. not without pain and cuts..

the best i could do is grap the wires, not sure if that would be wise tho..?
