Quick question for all the car audio guru's on here. Is the RCD500 rated at 20W RMS x 4 or is it 20W max x 4? I'm debating on whether to add an amplifier to get better quality sound or just replace the head unit to a more powerful one.

Something like this will do the job, they're reasonably cheap to get landed in the country for under $400-450.

I doubt it is RMS. I am pretty sure its 20W max x 4

I just updated the page with some links and more photos/info. There are a few guys running this on golfmkv.com (just search on blaupunkt and you'll find them easy in the Australian forum) and from what I've heard they have no complaints. You _may_ have to run some more power to these units if you have problems but if you're using the factory speakers it should be ok (mainly an issue with the 5 channel unit).

All in all a good upgrade, easy to install and probably less then 2 hours work from start to finish without having to cut a single wire. I'll put some more links on there later to other stores that sell it but there's some info on those links on golfmkv.com.

I just bought a RCD500 on ebay as my TDI only has the single player (pain in the arse) but will stick with factory speakers as most people beleive they are pretty good once a decent wattage is fed to them.

I am looking at running a small sub to get some extra bass so the 5 channel amp is more up my alley.

I was going to go with a single din aftermarket head unit but they just look out of place. The double din satnav/dvd's are out of my budget and to tell the truth I'd never use those features anyway.

Yours would have had the silver buttons on it anyway wouldn't it? My TDI is an 05 so needed the all black face one.

Yeah mine has the silver buttons. I feel a little better now. I will chuck it up on eBay tomorrow for $250.
