Push Starting a DSG?

Most people know if a Manual Car has a flat battery, you can get it push started, while automatics can't be.

What about a DSG? Has anyone tried?

You can't push start a DSG car.

contrary to popular theory there is no little german man in the gearbox of a dsg.

its actually a minature american from a heavily unionised workforce and he simple doesn't do anything until the engine is running.

so no, he won't allow you do do this unfortunately.

what you need to do is bankrupt his company and put it under chapter 11 which voids all existing agreements and then rehire him at a lower rate with no union agreements. Trouble is then he'll probably go and sit at home making babies with his hick wife.

So basically, you've got to get a manual with a man pedal. sorry

How would you pop the clutch?

While I haven't tried, can you actually slot the DSG into drive without the engine started? I'd doubt you'd be able to get it out of Park.

If you leave the DSG in neutral for a short time, you have to put your foot on the brake before you can select D or R. That would put a spanner in the works of a roll start even if the transmission were to allow it, which it doesn't.

It will, however, slot back into D without touching the brake if inadvertently slipped into N while in motion (happens when you think you are in M mode and push forward to change up, but are actually in D )

No you cant push start it. This is because the hydraulic pump for the clutches is driven off the engine.

You'd also have to push it fast enough to get 250 rpm on the engine, as that is when the ECU will inject fuel.

There is one automatic you can push start....a mini matic (70's). It has an engine driven pump and a wheel driven hydraulic pump.

No, the DSG's can't be started like the manual cars, as far as I know the only thing that you can do is jus push it to the side of the road,

Slight hijacking of this thread.. though can you put a DSG in Neutral without the car running?

There is one automatic you can push start....a mini matic (70's). It has an engine driven pump and a wheel driven hydraulic pump.

Or the Allison TX100 3 speed auto. Has a front and rear pump, so can be bump started in forward and reverse.

But I digress...If the battery is flat, why not go jumper leads or Roadside Assist??
