Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Installed BMC DIA filter

Big Thanks to John @ BM Autowerks for supplying the parts at an excellent rate - highly recommend!

BMC DIA (same filter as CDA just not carbon body) - LOVEEEE the sound !! Car is also more responsive in D mode and even better in S mode

    Pics...

Took about 30 mins to install - just lining up the CAI hose was the most time consuming - thinking ill pinch one of the mrs stockings and zip tie it around the bottom of the snorkel so i dont suck any wildlife (or leaves) up

    Cheers

You'll get the chance to run in the new engine.

Just don't drive through deep water.
My intake hole is not nearly that big and not noticeable (I've got black tubing and the opening is about 25-30mm, you don't need it to be the same size).

i have since also placed a thick stocking over the inlet and moved the hose more back/protected from the elements - i dont connect the snorkel when its wet/raining

                Man!!! that's awesome!!

I think there is a bypass valve for the hose that avoid's the water go up to the engine, not sure where but I'll find the details,

                Really nice!!!

Just a noob question: Is there much of a difference in performance or economy when doing a mod like this with CAI? I know probably the induction noise is going to be greater, but would you get better economy/responsiveness out of it by having cold air intake?

Mostly throttle control I believe, but does sound better without being over the top with ridiculous induction sound like some intakes. Isn't an overly expensive mod but works best with headers/cams.

I think you mean this? I believe they are only on US cars? (up the top!)

Yes throttle response is notted, as well as the nice induction sound when WOT
