Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was thinking of going down the same route as deancorp re: giac flash.
Only concern is wheelspin off the line in the wet. the interior finance minister will also be driving the car, most often with the rugrat in the back. We had a stock nissan xtrail that would scare the bejesus out of her every time she planted the foot down in the rain. That only had 135kw. With the claimed 230kw and 400nm GIAC flash on the pirelli is she likely to wheelspin out of every intersection?

Myself, i wouldn't mind the extra gumbo, but gotta think of the style queen and her princess...
(she currently drives a 2.5tonne toorak tractor that takes 12sec to reach legal speed).

I concur. The pirelli is a very sedate animal, even when modded to the hilt.. That is, until you prod it.

Too much power through to the wheels in any car = Wheelspin

Whatever you do to the car will not change this.....end of story

Mines a GTI and I was getting the TC cutting in in 3rd..........
A chip/mods will soon change that. I get wheelspin in third gear at 3/4 WOT in the dry...!

              Crazy stuff, but all good.

Nah the pirelli is fine unless you really prod it. Even severely modded ones can be driven by wifeys without any problems at all.

I think the secret to all high powered cars is feeding the throttle in. Mashing the pedal is where you will get massive wheelspin.

A standard GTI has a more peaky power delivery and probably more prone to wheelspin even though its total power output is less.

This is why some people seem to think the Pirelli feels slower. There is less turbo rush cos the power delivery is more linear. The only way I can see it being slower is when zipping in and out of traffic perhaps. When youre on and off the throttle

Trust me man there's nothing linear about a heavily modded pirelli. It's nuts.

Stock for stock I think its more linear.

But yes Ive been in a GIAC tuned Pirelli. The power that these things make with such a simple upgrade is just insane. Owner was talking about doing more power mods but im thinking suspension would be my next step.

What about the APR flash, it's switchable back to standard with a press of the cruise control buttons.
I have a black 3 door Pirelli and will be getting it flashed soon, just need to decide which to get APR, GIAC..or???

I'm sure one of the paid representatives from a certain chip company will be along soon to convince you which way to go.
