Hmmm... I've seen a couple of pics around showing plates fitted without the mount. They look like they face up on a bit of an angle. I think I'll ask my dealer to make sure an euro plate mount is supplied/fitted when the order gets here. Thanks for the info!

Cheers mate!Originally posted by minigolfIf you get stuck, you can buy the mount from www.oempl.us I think.

Bad news or bad information!
I had to confirm what I had heard about the German built thing....
I got this reply today....
Thank you for contacting us through the Volkswagen Australia Website.
In reply to your email enquiry, I can advise that all Golf apart from the R32 are assembled in South Africa. The R32 in assembled in Germany.
Kind Regards,
Volkswagen Customer Assistance
I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

Here is a list of the letter codes that tell you where your car was assembled:

Here is a website that decodes your VIN:
Here is my VIN (well, that unique bits, the numbers on the end have been changed to protect the innocent). The last letter of the VIN indiactes where the car was built...

Anything similar for Engine numbers? Are engines in general assembled wherever the car is or are they assembled in one place then exported to different "body" assembly factories?Originally posted by minigolfHere is my VIN (well, that unique bits, the numbers on the end have been changed to protect the innocent). Thanks for the invaluable info minigolf. I received my VIN and engine number today, no build date yet (still around March or April). Mine also has a "W" as the last letter in the VIN, so it's definitely a Wolfsburg car! Yayyyy!!!Originally posted by minigolfHere is a list of the letter codes that tell you where your car was assembled:

That's pretty impressive to hear you have a VIN already. I've heard it's possible, but that's the first time I've heard of a customer getting a VIN before the car has been built. Nice work.
Click on "Auto Cargo" and put in your VIN just in case. If your car does show up, click on the numbers in the Voyage field and you should be able to find even more information.

Thanks for even more invaluable info! Yeah, I guess being in the motor trade might have a bit of pull towards getting that VIN and engine number info bright and early. It's still a bloody long wait though...Originally posted by minigolfThat's pretty impressive to hear you have a VIN already. Well, our GTI is built and well and truly on the way! Left Bremerhaven on 27/2, expected arrival at Brisbane 9/4 with stopovers in Belgium, France, UK, Seth Efrika, Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney. Damn, it will travel more than we ever will in our lifetimes!
Hopefully after compliancing and all the usual mucking around through customs, we should see it late April/early May!!!
Thanks again minigolf for the link to Wallenius Wilhelmsen's website!Last edited by pinzvidz; 15-03-2007, 06:39 PM.
