  • Got my Pirelli GIACed!

    so after posting up the original thread of the GIAC bulk buy i finally got it done.

    So far my 200kms impressions:

    * improved off boost torque
    * improved spool up time
    * increased boost (spike to 20psi tapers to steady 16psi - up from 11-12psi stock)
    * increased power (obviously)
    * increased torque (once again obvious)

    It's been around 200kms now since the flash and all i can say is that im totally and utterly chuft!

    It is without doubt, the best bang for your buck mod you can do to your relli or GTI. It's been said, but I would have payed double the amount of money for this mod and still be as chuft.

    the car's off boost torque has increased significantly and once past vacuum, the turbo spools much quicker (than pre-flash) to a peaky 20psi then tapering to 16psi. It all happens so quick and once you've thought to yourself, "i think i better shift up" you're doing well over 140 and feeling as though you were doing 100.

    Ive driven about 198kms in manual mode so cant really comment on S or D. Overtaking is much easier and there is no real need to drop as many gears (if any) to get into the "zone". Torque steer is a bit more pronounced but nothing like it wanting to change lanes by itself.

    Consequently with more power and more speed, the ability to hit the rev limiter and the DSG wanting to shift itself is more previlent. I can also say that fuel economy has taken a big dive, purely for the fact that i cant seem to stay out of boost for very long. I'm sure i'll get used to the power, but that will mean ill just be hankering for a HPFP, exhaust or intake (or all 3!)

    Overall this mod is definetly worth doing and the perfect platform with which to start my other mods. The price is a steal and if you don't jump on it now, you'll kick yourself!

    Special thanks go to Lucas for the flashing, and pre and post sales support. I can't tell you how valuable it is to have someone technical around just a call away to fire questions to. Spending so much money on a car to have it flashed and potentially causing it some damage, it's reassuring to know that someone's there to make sure all is well. On the flip side, he's a bitch of a friend to have, as he has some desirable parts around that he can bolt to your car in minutes, have you reflashed, and have you leave with many KW more than what you drove in with!

    will update after the first 1000kms. which will be in about a week!

      I also got my Jetta 2.0 TFSI GIAC'd Friday night at Tony's engine rebuild, and I must say, very impressed so far.

      Also got the GIAC flashloader for the stock mode, so parents can still drive it without any issues.

      Overall, the biggest change I've noticed is an increase in throttle response (more pronounced in the low-rev range) and obviously more power/torque through the midrange right through to redline. However, the power increase wasn't as much as I had initially expected, probably due to all the rave reviews I've read on this and other forums.

      I'm still slightly disappointed at how impatient I was at getting the chip, since I probably could've the stock a bit more to decide whether it truly was necessary was, but then again, I have no regrets.

      Would definitely do business again with the boys at Eurospeed, and it was great to have a look at Tony's rebuild.. very interesting stuff!

      How a Pirelli edition would be with the GIAC tune, I can only imagine...

      But my Jetta is a much better car to drive now =]

          i am from singapore. i have check with my GIAC dealer but they do not have the map for pirelli map over here after testing my ecu. As far as i know there are only about 10 pirelli here.

          For GIAC stage 1 for pirelli, is there a need to change any components?

          is it advise to do a dsg reflash too?

            GIAC Stage 1 for Pirelli does not require any change of components. You're probably looking at around 50-60hp increase with the flash.

            Personally, I wouldn't do a dsg reflash due to the dsg issues...of which i have experience once...just in case the dealer finds an excuse...

              The ECUs from country to country are be different this may be why your dealer is telling you that they do not have a flash. Especially if there are so few cars there it may not have been worth their while to write the map yet.

              The pirelli ECU flash works just the same as any other flash and needs no other upgraded parts.

              Although GIAC do offer other tunes for if you have an upgraded fuel pump or big bore intake. If you get one of these flashes then you will indeed need these extra parts.

                  Ahh yep.. We have had a couple local cars that have shown up with newer ECUs that a map did not previously exist for. And yeah after downloading the code and sending it off to GIAC it usually takes them around 2 weeks to get the new map sorted for that particular ECU revision. Should be fine.

                        If you can get the DSG flash there will be some envious Australian owners! As GIAC havent released it for our Aussie delivered MY09 cars yet!

                            VW tool up for the 2009 model year in the middle of 2008. But yeah.. dont take our experience here in Australia as gospel. have your local GIAC dealer plug you in and check for the availability of code as there are many differences across the world.

                              i have just call them, they say most likely GIAC will custom the map. Is it a better choice to go for REVO, MTM, ABT, OETTINGER, since they have map that are for ed30/pirelli, rather the GIAC unitronic,APR as they are US tuner which do not have this model of car over there, so hence they have not tired.

                              Any advise out there? thanks.
