Ok..lets see how long this would take realistically and how much parts would be out of interest. Feel free to fill in whats left out. Also, what's the going rate for an apprentice mechanic compared to what you get charged per hour?
Interogate 5051 fault memories & printed report. 5 mins?
Reset service interval indicator. 1 minute?
Change auto trans fluid and filter.
Carry out service to manufacturer specifications.
Replace engine oil and filter. 10 minutes
Check drive belts. quick eyeball and check tension - 1 minute
Check cooling system. 5 mins
Replace air cleaner element. 1 minute
Replace fuel filter.
Replace spark plugs. 20 minutes?
Check exhaust system. quick glance while on hoist - 2 minutes
Replace brake fluid.
Check all oil levels. 1 minute. Kind of pointless really as fluids are drained and replaced with specified qty
Check steering & suspension components. quick look while on hoist 5 mins max
Check front and rear brakes. quick glance while wheels are off on the hoist - 5 minutes
Lubricate locks, hinges & latches. no squeeks - doesn't get done. 1 minute job if they do
Check all seat belt components. 2 minutes
Check & adjust parking brake. if it works they won't adjust - 10 seconds to check while doing road test
Check lights, wipers, tyre pressure & all fluid levels. 5 minutes. Why is check oil levels listed seperately?
Replace pollen filter.
Check battery electrolyte and fluid level. WHAT THE?? they are sealed and maintenance free
Carry out road test to manufacturer handbook. 5 minute flogging down the road to pick up the smoko or lunch order

I can't understand why people freqently carry on about how their service cost should be based on what an apprentice is paid.
Those same people would never go to a dealer if that dealer advertised "We only use apprentices, who aren't properly trained, to service your vehicle. We do this to ensure you get the cheapest possible motoring experience. In addition, we have a filthy waiting room, no computers, and a workshop with hoists that will damage your underpan - but hey, man, you want cheap, so we'll give it to you. We also dispose of your old fluids straight into the gutter - why pay money to have it properly recycled or disposed of. We'd have to charge you for that..etc, etc, etc"
If you don't check the servicing costs before buying a vehicle, you are an apprentice car buyer. If you do check, you'll know that a Touareg is far cheaper to service than a Golf GTI and a Golf TDI, but the newer TDIs with timing chain will be much cheaper than the older timing belt models.
If the OP doesn't like the cost of the 60k service, he'd better sell the car before the 120k one - it's dearer, due to timing belt.sigpic

The guy got crap service from VW service professionals...I'd be pissed too.
Another point in case towards the dealer screwing up just as much as any other log book servicing joint.website: www.my-gti.com

I have also completed the 60k service for my jetta TFSI, it costs $1400 including rear brake pads and injector service..@ Five dock VW
Obviously I have my doubts about the injectors and $$ pads
A dsg service was not done....
However, the invoice stated 'according to manufacturers logbook'.
Uuuummm guess ringing around for quotes among the VW dealers we arent comparing apples with apples. As I chose this dealer as it quoted $800 originally for the service...
Not happy

I looked at servicing costs before I ended up buying my TDI and distinctly remember the salesperson saying "no service will cost more than $600".
He was right in a way. As soon as I got quoted over $600 for a service I took my business elsewhere. Most I have ever paid so far was around $350 from memory.I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....
