  • Too old for GTI?

I have posted a couple of threads lately about my 2008 GTI, what people don't know, is that I will be 56 this year. Should I be hanging my boots up and buying a TDI, or something similar. I don't plan on giving it up for several years yet, I just love the handling and acceleration.

Are there any other 'oldies' out there driving GTI's?

Keep the GTI, once you go the TDI it's all downhill from there

I'm 56 heading for 57, wanted to buy a GTI but needed a car with a boot so I bought the Jetta turbo, as close to a GTI as I could get. I'm certainly not too old for a GTI, neither are you, enjoy it!

I'm sure Gerhard will chime in some time soon.........he's even more senior than we are!

                Cheers

                  GTI = natural Viagra.

there are worse looks than a (near) retiree in a GTI.

                  SV6 Commodore
+ heavy, very "out there" 22 inch rims with cheapest tyres available
                  + comb-over
                  + 30kg overweight
                  + Black Death-Metal Band T-shirt
                  + Socks
                  + Sandals

It's like "I wanted something like this since i was 18 and now after 40 years I've realised my dream"

Are you for real mate? I can't believe you even asked that sort of question

You can never be too old to do something you enjoy. If you love your GTI, keep it! Do what you wanna do, not what the general stereotype is telling you to do.

Age isn't the issue, mate.... the GTI is a chick's car - the automotive equivalent of a 'toy boy' (safe but naughty...). Seriously, how many times have we read complaints that 'my girlfriend has taken over my GTI'... I don't recall reading 'my girlfriend has taken over my TDI').

I think that if your GF takes over your car... You've got bigger problems

Don't worry about what other people think, let alone what sort of car you should drive based on how old you are ! Drive whatever you like (and are prepared to pay for). Older people often have more money to indulge their fantasies (one of the compensations for getting old )

On the subject of GF's taking over cars, a mate (who has a MkV R32) recently went car shopping for a replacement car for his missus' Polo TDI. After looking at a BMW 120d they came home with a Pirelli GTI !!! And now it sounds like he'll be pinching his missus' car, as he enjoys driving it more than his R32

Quite different cars (except perhaps price). Presumably they got the Pirelli because of its superior rear leg room...

A mate of mine bought the 120l instead of a GTI because most of his friends already had Golfs (not sure that's a good enough reason, actually).
