Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Price you would expect to pay

    Hi all,
Just a quick question, what would be regarded as a "good" deal for a second hand GT Sport TDI DSG, with 40,000ks or less.

I have been looking around at either the above or similar k pacific, looking to buy in the next month or so.

    Cheers in advance

I'd suggest you get onto carsales.com and see what's on offer Australia wide, look up redbook.com for the absolute bottom price, and then get onto Steve here above and see what he's after.

Thanks for that guys, I am looking for a car for my wife (as such must be DSG), but would also like to get one that is a bit of fun when I get to drive it. I have noted that the golf diesels look quite good, on paper.

I have been looking at Pacific TDI's, but have seen a few Sport TDi's around and was just wondering about the pricing, as all the ones I have seen have been manual.

Maybe someone could advise of the differences between Pacific and GT sport (both TDI), as I have looked through the pages but can not seem to find a definitive answer.

SAGE; thanks for that but looking at a model with fewer K's

          Cheers

Big difference is engine power - GT has 125Kw versus i think 103kw and torque is around 350nm compared to 325? The GT has a Gti style front bar ( minus the tiny little lip at the bottom, honeycomb grille and red Gti stripe ) , it has a dual rear exhaust, GTi brakes, 17" Wheels, Sportier and lower suspension, Sports steering wheel. Mirrors, door handles and plastic strips are colour coded. Not sure if the pacific has it but the GT also has the dual climate control. Plus the GT is more of collectors items than a standard Pacific and will be more valuable.

            Anything I miss?

I reckon you could get away with that 40,000km GT TDI for under 30k.

Maybe but I doubt it, even redbook lists them as $29,700 - $32,500 as a private price and the cheapest one on carsales is $31,500 with most averaging in the mid 30's. It would also depend on the options that they have on them I guess.
