Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Heat with aircon off

No luck with search. Golf Gti 2007 petrol (BWA)
Is anyone having heat (lots of) coming from their air vents, with the air con turned off.
The air con works fine, when required, but heat is coming from the vents when driving without the aircon ever being used.
I have a similar problem with the Passat ( never got a reason why).
Summer or winter we have free annoying HEAT,( not really free).
I feel the dealers will fob me off, just as before.
Any advice would be most welcome.
    Thank you in advance
    John

I get this sometimes in my Jetta... but i've always assumed it was heat from the engine bay and another way/technique to draw heat from the engine...

        My Mk4 does this too.
I believe it is due to a failed actuator which closes an air vent when the unit is off. Engine coolant always runs through the heater core, but normally the the flap is closed and no air passes through this area and into the cabin.
It is most annoying and best solved by closing the vents on the dash your self.
Getting to the failed actuator looks like a lot of work to me.

I get the same thing . what I do fix this is I turn the aircon on, set it to cold and let it blast some cold air out for 5 seconds then turn it off. Problem goes away after that.

That was a similar answer that I had received from a USA site a number of years ago. The repair will require a lot of work, hence the bloody reluctance from the dealers to explain when I questioned them about the Passat.
Now how to fix the problem as the HEAT is on the verge of oppressive.
I am still under warranty, fingers crossed.
Thank you for all the replies, much appreciated.

I have the same thing with my Jetta, but dealership told me it is quite normal.
Even if I put normal air on,not the aircon,it gets cooler air coming into the cabin.
Apparently a lot of people complain about this,so you are certainly not alone...
