Cigarette Lighter

So it has a cigarette lighter in the socket that was in there when you picked the car up? Does the flap close down over the top with the lighter in the socket? Is there a rubber mat in the tray or is all hard plastic in there?

Yeah the lighter was there when I got the car (It was a demo, though) and no rubber mat in the ashtray. All hard plastic with areas designed to rest your cigarettes... I may just post a pic for all you Golf drivers out there

I guess the diesel blows smoke so the driver may as well

The dealer may have fitted it as I doubt it's a factory option but most likely a dealer fit option as the spec sheet says MY08 come with Accessory Sockets only.

My Jetta came with a ciggy lighter and ashtray under the flap below the radio/climate control... not that I ever use it or find out if it's working.

Seems the Jettas have had a cigarette lighter with ashtray under the climate control for a few years (MY07-MY09)...mine has one. Played with it the other day to make sure it works. Too bad I've lost out on the 12V socket near the front drink holders for some reason though.

Maca your lighter should fit in there snugly so something is up. Dodgy lugs maybe. And you're right, it wouldn't be a fuse. Something for the dealer to fix next time your in.

Something mega scary happened while taking the pics too; I had the key in the "on" position without turning the car on so I could move the shifter down and after about 1 min the steering column made the strangest sound... Kinda like someone chopping something on a chopping board really quickly. It then became less frequent but when I turned the indicator on it would come on with it (e.g. whenever the light was on it would start up again!). Scary *****.

Back on topic though lol yeah it fits in just as any other cig lighter should and yeah, i'll be bringing it up next time i'm at the dealership

It's all true.
Jetta is the only VW that still has a ciggy lighter and ashtrays front and back.
The staff pointed this out to me at delivery.
It's a PIA. I'd rather have a little tray to drop my lipstick into.

Heres a pic of my ashtray after I removed the little chrome bit that used to hold the cigarette.



I removed the little chrome bit cause it was making it harder to get the coins out of there.

My first mod!

I've just done this same 'mod' to mine.
I now have a useful storage tray.

Have a look at your picture.



I have removed the little metal bit at the front (with the round cigarette holder bit). This frees up room and makes it easier to reach the coins.

Haha yeah ok I can see the difference, but it's not major.. I may do the same seeing as I don't smoke and it'll be a cold day in hell before anyone does in my car!
