Hey my cigarette lighter doesn't work... When I click it in it doesn't actually stay in.

However when I plug my SatNav charger or anything else in, it works fine. What could be the issue? I mean if it were the fuse nothing would work right?

You don't have a cigarette lighter in your car. You have an accessory socket and cigarette lighters will not work in there.

The issue is that VW hate smokers and are doing you a favour. Seeing as there is no ashtray in the car you would also have to flick your cigarette out the window so they're stopping you from starting bushfires and littering as well. Good work VW

Leigh the fun comes when you put a few "back in". With a very sincere "hey, you dropped this!". Talk about wig out.

At least you're in Victoria and can make reports to the EPA who do fine the driver of the car, here in Queensland we have ~10 permanent smoking enforcement officers who have only issued around 500 infringement notices in 4 (FOUR) years

I could write 50 tickets a day in the CBD, maybe they need to move the lazy sods to a commission based system

Certain Jetta's have a cigarette lighter and ashtray where Golfs have our accessory power.
Some also have another 12v outlet on the front of the centre console.

I think what happens (happened to my dads magna) is that the clips inside get pushed out by accessories so they no longer hold the lighter - if you hold it in it should still work.

ex smoker here, im not gonna preach to you about how bad smoking is, you already know...

Are these were they have retrofitted them? As far as I know there isn't an option to get a cigarette light installed and the only power listed for the Jetta is accessory sockets of which they generally get 3, one in the boot, one in the center console (unless cd changer is fitted) and one in the tray in front of the gear selector.

None of these will take a cigarette lighter unless there is one out there designed for accessory sockets (which wouldn't surprise me).

My MY07 Jetta has a ciggy lighter and ashtray forward of the gear stick, a 12V outlet just behind the cupholder tray (mounted on the centre bin) and another in the boot.

Theres also an ashtray in the driver side rear door.

The ciggy lighter works but it's tiny and hard to get out (awkward place and I have big hands). Not that I need it as i'm not a smoker.

Sorry Dad, you'll be happy to know that i'm not a smoker! (I might have a few puffs here and there though) A friend of a friend was going nuts looking for a lighter so me in true VW fashion offered it to her!

Yeah I have a Cigarette lighter and ashtray under the radio (in between those 2 funny looking handle things) and another 12v plug on the outside of the centre console.. Don't hate coz we're cooler!

So Maverick, you're thinking that it's not actually designed to take a cigarette lighter which could be why it's not staying in? Or is what Jeffie's saying true? Although I noticed this even before I started plugging the satnav charger in (I only got it last week). I'm not a smoker so it doesn't bother me in the slightest but I still want it to work

I must admit to doing this myself once. A whole lot of vehicles were stopped at some road works for quite a while, and the driver of the car in front of me opens up their door and just dumps a full ashtray of butts and ash on the road ! I just got off my bike, walked over, scooped up a handful of butts and ashes and dumped them in the driver's lap, saying "Here, I think this is yours !", all the time giving them a real evil glare. Naturally enough, they just sat there and shut up ( a wise move really, considering I was pretty steamed up at the time ).

So it has a cigarette lighter in the socket that was in there when you picked the car up? Does the flap close down over the top with the lighter in the socket? Is there a rubber mat in the tray or is all hard plastic in there?
