  • Ok i cant take it anymore!

The vibration in the front doors of my golf are driving me nuts.. so much im listening to talk radio just to stop it!

How easy are the door trims to remove? Anywhere i can find a diagram or something?

Has anyone experience with padding them with foam? or other relevent fixes?

    Appreciate your input.

Can't help with the diagrams, but best bet is to buy some sound deadener like dynamat. This will stop a lot of rattles and actually enhance the sound of your speakers if done properly. Not cheap though.

The drivers side is easy to remove, pry up the trim around the window switches and everything else is pretty straightforward.

On the passenger side, the lower pastic trim panel around the handle has a small notch hidden under the top of the handle, use his notch to pry the panel out laterally and everything g else is easy to figure out. You'll need several types of torx drivers.

I found the drivers door plastic was a little tricky actually, and the two halves kind of clam shell together. Just take your time, don't force anything, and you can work it out. The passenger side was a lot easier as the outer handle section just pulls straight off. You do need to lever it though, again, take your time and be careful. If you don't have Torx you *can* get away with long allen keys, but you can get a multi fold out torx pocket knife set from supercheap for under $20. They aren't very long though. Bunnings have a nice Torx set, but it's about $50, I got a nice Kingchrome set from my local Auto specialist ( streets Auto in Brisbane ) for about $35 from memory. Nice and long.

I have excess dynamat if you are in Brisbane, I bought a bulk pack and have a few sheets left over. Actually anyone who is after a few sheets let me know, it'll go off before I do another install. One sheet is PLENTY to cover most of a door. I put some inside of the door trim itself too.

If you do break any of the push in plugs pulling the trim off ( they are white ) they come in a pack of ten from vw for about $8, so don't worry!! Only trouble is explaining to the spare parts guy exactly what you want, as their diagram isn't very clear, I've seen it.

        Enjoy!

I had the same problem - the dealer (Nepean) fixed it but surprisingly it was the curtain airbag harness/retainer in the C pillar. They filled with foam to stop it from vibrating. All fixed

If you're still under warranty Sage, take it back to the Dealer, they'll fix it for you...I was plagued with rattles in the door from the get go, but the dealer sorted them for me no worries.

It'll be one of the BS dealer warranties I assume and not the factory warranty extension. Warranty for rattles and noises is only 12 months so even with the factory warranty extension you don't get them removed for free.

                      F'n rattles drive you mad..
Never getting a new VW again

Anyway are you sure it's not due to speaker vibration? Dynamat is a good option to reduce rattles and also improve sound, however sounds like you're getting the rattles regardless.

I had to go back about three times, and ended up isolating the sound myself which was the external b-pillar cover making the sound.

It's driving me bonkers as well. I'm sure mine is in the door -- caused by even mild bass notes. Stand-up bass (double bass played jazz-style) will set it going every time.

I'm not sure whether the rattle is inside the door or whether it's the stainless steel trim piece. Whatever it is, just a light pressure on the top right corner of the door settles it down -- but I can't drive around like that!

Good point actually Mav... I remember the ex-service manager at VW telling me that now... Rattles and squeaks are only 12 months.
