Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Lowest kms?

I'm just about to book my Jetta TFSI in for its 2 year service ... and it has 6500kms on it

I only commute to work 3 days a week normally, 1 of those days I take our other car as I do other stuff, and the other day I sometimes ride my pushbike.

So that leaves 1 day trip to work (40km round trip), x50wks a year x2 yrs = 4000kms. Add in the odd weekend trip to the countryside ... and there's the explanation for the low kays. We use the other car (as it is the family hack) for doing the shopping etc on the weekends.

Seems like overkill to have 2 cars ... but we couldn't do without having 2 cars (if that makes sense).

depends if you own the car or are paying finance for it. if your paying for it still id just sell it and get an old(er) beater otherwise your paying for something you dont use, is that makes sense haha.

6,500kms in 2 years isn't enough to enjoy the car!

Ah I own it, not paying finance on it.

Already got 1 beater (the other car) - couldn't hack two

I've had my car almost 4 moths. I was away for a whole month on holidays so that leaves 3 of driving.
In those 3 months I've done 6000 km (approx)

Factor in my daily work drive is 20km return, 5 days a week, I've been doing 1100 extra every month for basically the sake of just going for a drive.

            I <3 my GTI

I got mine dec 22 last year. Just ticked over 16,000kms last week.
So I guess I'm not gonna win this one.

Heh, I'm doing very similar average - 30km return to work, 5 days a week, coming up for 9500km in 6 months.

I'm up to 6500 and I got mine in Feb this year. But I'm a sales rep.

Honestly, it seems a waste of a lovely Jetta. Unless you have to protect it from small children, I'd be driving it as much as possible.

Well I do have small children

It's just sorta ended up that way. I'd rather take our other beater to the shops than the Jetta.

Planning to keep it for 6+ years so low kms helps in general wear and tear.

It's an interesting argument isn't it?
I guess if we were talking lambos and ferraris, no one would be bagging an owner who kept the kms down.

8,278 from Sept 2008 including approx 2200 during DOVW Melb.

Have a bit more soon if we go to Nationals in Sydney.
