But based upon my reading of the warranty PDS, it seems like the warranty is only available if you purchase the car from an authorised dealer. So I would be able to buy the extended warranty on the Octavia but I wonder about the Passat. Thanks.
I read it as being to extend an existing warranty - independently of the owner or seller of the vehicle at the time.

Buy the car, then the insurance; as long as you have a car under warranty you can extend it. With mine, I waited until it was near the end of its warranty.

You buy the warranty from a dealer (e.g. Jaz @ Sthn Classic) and she'll take care of everything.

Nice thread....I have 10,000k left on my GTI warranty and my DSG has been replaced once and is about to have a mechtronic unit replaced.

At this rate I can't afford not to get the extended warranty....thanks for organizing guys.

Bizi you are right; though I managed to get a VW extended new car warranty even though the original warranty had just expired (3 weeks prior). Though I'm spewing seeing this thread now because a couple of dealers here in melbourne would not go under $1900. I guess thats the price I had to pay for something that, strictly speaking, I shouldn't have got in the first place.

Worth asking anyhow; would I have been able to get it from Jaz even though the dealer's in NSW and I'm in VIC?

                    Yes. Your location doesn't matter.

Not everything can be a sticky. See it as a reward for those that are regular users that search around a little bit!

Just give Jaz a call on (02) 4254 2000 - she's very friendly even if you just asking around. I got a quote yesterday for my 2006 Jetta.

I went to a local VW dealer near where I live to get my 3 year extended warranty, armed with printout of quote in this thread (I'd prefer to deal locally) and to my surprise they beat this offer from VW Wollongong.. so it's still worth shopping around

My local dealer also bettered the quote, but only just. I didn't print the thread price or say where I got it from, they still beat it.

i dont believe this is a thread about who/if you can better the price - rather somthing that is cheap for what its worth. I'm sure many people like myself who purchased a car 2nd hand do not have the intial relationship with a dealer that "could" better the price.

For arguments sake, the price i paid from Jaz was approx $400 cheaper then the 3 places i called locally before comming across this thread
