  • MFD differentiation

Just wondering what the difference is between your MFD, MFD plus and MFD2. I know the pre MY08s have MFD, which has a black bar separating the odometer and the warning lights, whilst a pre MY08 with Sat Nav has the door graphical display and an elongated display box.

Does it mean that post MY08 cars have MFD plus or is it synonymous with MFD2?

Does it also mean that if you have MFD plus then it can be fully configurable with programming auto door locks, lights on for so many seconds, etc...?

The correct name for the MFD is FIS (Fahrer Informations System) which is what AUDI call it.

MFD/FIS is the full height display and gives you access to various settings that you normally require the dealer or Vagcom/VCDS to fit.

MFD/FIS was standard on GT Sport's, GTI and R32's from the MY08 model onwards. Prior to this it was only available with a FACTORY fitted navigation unit.

Other countries (mainly European) allows you to order the MFD/FIS at the point of sale.

Fitting one is a major PITA because of the security around the cluster.

So, if I read you correctly Maverick, if an MY07 R32 with factory Sat Nav, it should have the elongated FIS (MFD) and as such, should be fully programmable with interior light, door lock delay, etc...?

        Yes.

However it's not uncommon for dealers to swap navigation units between cars so you may find a 07 without nav but with the FIS/MFD.

And you may find one with navigation but no FID/MFD.

                      Sorry a newbie question,
So does it mean a MY08 TDI which has black bar separating the time/mileage etc and the warning lights does not have access to MFD Plus?

How can I request for this setting to be modified? Do I need to go to the dealer everytime? What'll be the cost? Thanks.

                        Yes
                        The dealer or purchase Vagcom/VCDS
Yes or no if you have Vagcom/VCDS
Depends on the changes required and if it's during a service or a standalone job.

www.ross-tech.com has all the info on the cable.

The one you're after for Mark V and VI cars is the Micro-CAN.

Do you own one Maverick and is it easy to use? Aside from the "convenience menu' items you can change, any other things the Vag-com can do? Do you have any screenshots? Cheers mate.
