Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Oh.... The Golf GTI

Andrew (gtimk5) let me drive his car this weekend. Why do people buy Commodore V8s ? This car is a rocket but it's completely docile in "normal" driving mode. At first I took off and thought, "So what??? It feels just like my TDI...about the same torque..." but then I got the revs up over 4000 and whoosh!!! off she went. Impressed is an understatment as I was amazed at just how quick it is.
For those contemplating colour coding their Mk5s.. Just do it. Same goes for flashing the ECU. Andrew's car looks very distinctive now colour coding's done.
(I know you petrol-heads think that I've only ever had diesel cars, but I've had a few hot octane guzzlers in my time including a very fast semi-track 'Cooper S and I can appreciate power at revs when I feel it. )

Nice pics guys, the TDI looks plain beside the GTI, but I bet it looks great in isolation.

Good work in getting Brackie out of a Diesel Andrew

And the trip home was lots of fun too Brackie. I will have to write about it. The power in those west coast targa stage areas was a lot of fun!
