Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MFD says "DING"

Jumpd in the car this morning, got down the road and the MFD went "DING"... Lookd to see what was going on and the outside temp was flashing indicating that it was 4 degrees. A lil snow flake popd up next to the temp as well! This car keeps amazing me...

I'm sure the ACT guys would have seen this before and I doubt the QLD'ers have ever seen below 10 degrees... but what's the theory around the "DING" at 4 degrees?

I think it is intended to prompt you to decide whether to activate the 'winter' program (which is on the lower centre console near the ESP button) - on the GT Sport this reduces acceleration so as to prevent the wheels from spinning on snow and ice.

This is also why Jeremy Clarkson from Topgear thinks the TSI is a gutless wonder (he was driving around with the W button activated, and as a result the car was being overtaken by delivery vans) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...icle754961.ece. Sometimes he is such an ignorant git (yes, Mav, he should have read the owners manual...)

It's warning you about black ice which occurs a few degrees above freezing point.

BTW this is in that black book in the glovebox that I like to call the "owners manual".

Its to warn of possible ice on the road, it always means more power!!!
Gotta love that part of it!!
A lot of Qlders wont ever know the potential of their GTIs ect. until they get in tghe cooler weather.

It was an insane 14 degress in Bris this morning, nearly meant a state of emergency.

                    LOL!
Lucky it didn't go below freezing - with all your recent rain, we'd have a brand new Ice Shelf off the 'reef!

doing the runs through ipswich when i bought mine the little snow flake would pop up quite regularly.

Snowflake = no acceleration just perminant ESP light.

Love turbocharged cars and cold moist weather.

I dont have a winter mode button either. Have to activate it through the MFD. I guess this means i have the full mfd. heh

Nice one COGDOC..... everyone would've been rushing to the shops (like the boxing day sales), to buy coates and heaters!!!!!!!

Yep pretty cold, had to de-ice the car. Didn't mind when I got going, bloody weapon with the cold air...
