  • GPS Blackhole

The Barton Highway runs from Canberra to Yass or thereabouts.
I have a TomTom GPS that I use for the correct speed .
Well along a stretch of the above hwy the display goes haywire to say the least. I turned the unit on and off, no joy after about 10 clicks it returned to a normal display. This is in the bush the only thing near is a Blue metal quarry,
I am traveling over this bit of road once a month and it does it at the same place each time. "Is this an alien hideout"??
I have never experienced this anywhere else, how about you?

    Fixed Police Radars.?

Some bridges make mine read HIGHER ??

ie, Springvale rd on Melbournes Eastern Freeway

No good showing the copper the max speed in the memory as it always spikes there to 107kph

Haven't experienced that anywhere with my Navman.
But I've never driven on the Barton Highway either.

Thats interesting, there must be something around that area (perhaps underground?) causing the interference.

I reckon you're on to something with the Aliens though.

Y'all need to stop your whinging! The guidance license on my phone has run out and they want a further $124 to renew it (because spending almost $1,000 on the phone wasn't enough), and that's only for 12 months! And I can't use it at all until I do that... Not that it was anything to boast about, it was just handy having it there whenever you needed it.

I really need to get me one of those Gar-tom-man thingys..

GPS signals come from the sky overhead. If they are blocked, the TomTom will just lose lock and the map will stop moving. If the screen is going mad, then either the internal map is fecked or there is some very strong external electro magnetic field. What is the co-ords & we can look at google maps

Latest Tomtom software (and maybe mapping interface) allows a "predicted" speed to be played by the software, and the map continues moving along the last known road, at an average speed (consideration is given to last known speed vs local speed limit).

Graham Farmer Tunnel (Perth) is a classic example of this, and iGO8 will perform the same.

Garmin (Nuvi) software, will shut you out, and tell you that you are officially lost and won't find you until the satellites decide to "appear".

Which does not explain anything in regard to your "black hole". However, I have heard that once you try black.....
