Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • A little GTi problemo

    Hi guys,

Hoping someone can shed some light upon my query.

I have recently had a full exhaust and Forge DV fitted, and Stage 2 APR software. The problem is mostly felt after a fairly short drive (10mins or so) after first turning it on in the morning or when it's been sitting for a long enough time to cool down.

If I am cruising along in 4th gear at 60km/h, and put my foot down, the car feels somewhat restricted and the revs seem to try and climb, and it feels like something is slowing them down while climbing.

The car just doesn't pull anywhere near as hard as it should.

After I've driven around for a short while, it pulls fine and I can feel no power loss or rev restriction.

If I were to describe the noise, I'd say it sounds a bit like clutch-slip but obviously it's not.

Feels a bit like the revs restrict the car form pulling.

I have had the Forge DV taken off and everything checked for leaks etc., but nothing has been found. Mike at Prestige and Peformance did this for me as he fitted it originally.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or any information?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys,

    Aleks

I'd say t hat's a job for APR to look at. What revs is 60ks in 4th? is it before the turbo starts making any boost??

      Aleks,

Sounds like your stage 2 might be starved of fuel!

You may need to upgrade your fuel pump.

Speak to Guy he may be able to point you in the right direction.

Alrighty, went to Harding Performance first and got it hooked up to check for faults.

'Boost Pressure Regulator: Lower limit not reached' (something close to that, couldn't get it printed off)

Went to Mike and he says that it's the Forge DV that's most likely causing it.

So on Monday he's putting the stock one back in.

I wouldn't think it would be running out of fuel at 60 in 4th.

DV must be stuck open or something to stop you getting boost.

Alexksii, If you need it (although I doubt it) I've got a brand new in box VW DV for the MKV gti. its not the new revision type and never been used due to a cock up @ austral (susprise susprise)

just throwing it out there, but I'm glad you've found the issue.

Why don't you order in one of the new DV's and fit that? Forge DV is a waste of time plus ads lag.

Did you get the correct DV in the end?

I wouldn't have paid them for ordering the wrong part number!

Thanks very much mate, I still have the original one that I had on the car. I'm getting that one for now as VW tells me that they only have the G revision and cannot locate anything with part number ending in G..
