  • Incorrect registration papers?

Not sure whether this has come up before, but I bought my GT Sport last May from a VW dealer in Sydney (new - 8 km). I just received my registration renewal and it states the car has the 1984cc engine (the RTA also thinks the car is 'red', according to the REVS web site).

The RTA says the dealer needs to correct the info; the dealer says it was a mistake by the RTA who have done this before and seem to have been 'confused' by the GT Sport because it was a 'special run'; the RTA says it won't correct the details unless I get an RTA inspection; and the dealer has agreed to contact the RTA to tell them to correct the details.

    Any similar experiences?

I noticed on my registration renewal the other day that my Golf is registered as a sedan, I was told by a DPI staff member that they can't just change it... I have to take it to the pits for an inspection so that they can verify that it is a hatch.

You just gotta love finger pointing. Can you just take it in for an inspection at the RTA place, I'm sure that would make things embarassing for them all.

i don't think the have a seperate classification for hatchbacks. I remember in my Toyota Yaris hatch, it was classed as a sedan on the rego sticker, pretty sure its the same for my Golf sticker too.

I'll have to check the papers for my dad's hatch to see if it says hatch or sedan. In WA the body type/classification isn't listed on the rego sticker.

I would hope that the lady at the licensing centre would have said that it was normal instead of telling me that my car would have to be inspected if that is the case.

BTW: RTA means the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (for those from other States and Territories).

Yes, it certainly doesn't look like a red car (it being Candy White and all) though I'm not sure how they would really confirm the engine displacement without opening her up and taking internal measurements (and then, how would I know they could put it all back together properly - probably invalidates the warranty, as a non-dealer service).

There is also a charge, apparently, to have the inspection, so in these tight financial times I'm not keen to pay the RTA to fix a problem that appears to be of their own making. Embarassment probably won't stop them billing me for the experience...

The rego papers do correctly note the car is a '2008' year, and notes the engine number as 'BLG....' (which I recall means a 1.4 TSI) but describes the 'model' as 'GOLF06B'. What the heck does that mean?

Err, no. They're not. It's listed on the rego document, not the stickers - they're generic!

Mine says HTCHBK for what it's worth. My previous car, also a hatch, was recorded as a SEDAN so... getting back to the opening poster's question, looks like they do make mistakes! GOLF06B would be the manufacture's code for your model rather than it's 'retail' name ie GT Sport TSI (yes, with 2 red letters lol)

Indeed, I was just curious whether there was any logic to such a code, given is is MY08 model, which wasn't available in '06. Perhaps it is just like the 'S' in Harry S Truman (ie it does not stand for anything, it just 'is' his middle name...).
