  • ipod adaptor, choices and install

    Hi Guys,

My Fiance has been on and on to me to get an ipod aux plug put in to her Mk V Sportline Golf.

Can you guys please advise me what is the best kit to buy and if there are any installation guides, i will be installing it myself as the process seems relatively easy

    thanks!

Depends though if you want specifically iPod input, or Aux input that lets you use other music players, mobiles etc...

Haha again it depends on what you want specifically... If you're doing it so you can only use your iPod and control it from your head unit - go the iPod input.. If you want to play anything and forget about the use of the head unit i'd go the 3.5mm jack.

I'm getting one installed friday hopefully and i like it because you can play anything, phones, ipods etc.

            what are the options?

VW quoted me about $300 for the OEM part

have a read here..i just went through the same process...
On Monday I finally ordered my 2009 3 Door CW GTI DSG with leather. Dropped by the dealer this afternoon to ask about iPod integration options and there in the driveway was my GTI all wrapped up in plastic. I am amazed at the amount of protective film they cover these cars with for...

i got the VW OEM ipod adapter from VW for around $150, and installed it myself. Its great in that you can use the steering wheel controls, it never runs out of battery, and is a clean install (ie the ipod stays in the glovebox with no exposed wires)...but you can only play 6 playlists, rather than select individual songs

i am thinking about getting an ipod connector too.. i was considering the OEM.. though after reading some of these links.. it seems the Dension 100 is a much better option..

does anyone have experience with them? when installing these connectors do you always have to remove the radio to plug it in at the back? if so how hard is it to run the cable to the glovebox?

                  appreciate any info guys.

yep, gotta undo the dash in the centre and unscew the stock headunit.
took the installer 20mins to do mine... so not long at all.

Where abouts did you get this done? Was it a simple pull apart, install, plug and play?

RCD 510 Head Unit Cost !!!!!

I'm just picking myself up off the floor

I have an MY09 Pacific with the useless iPod adapter fitted. I just called Barloworld at Mascot to ask the cost of the RCD510 head unit and they quoted $2237 plus GST

So I guess that option is out the window unless anyone knows of any way of getting this cheaper anywhere?

Might have to go back to looking at the Alpine option.

So have we got a definitive answer for the best option here?

All i want is a simple ipod connector which i can control via the steering wheel controls..

Whats the best option for me? I have an 05 Golf TDi..

I just spoke to a dealer and they reckon for full control it will cost $400 for a media box and $80 for a cable..

or alternatively $200 for the adapter.. which i gatherdoesnt let you select individual songs only playlists..

this is far more confusing than it should be

                              appreciate any info.
