Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I got done with a coca cola polarbear front plate once.

I explained that it had a polarbear on the front and as I own the plate polarbear and that was on the back, I figured it was easy enough to figure out.

They let me off with a warning that I should get the other proper plate on quick smart.

If you look on this site:
      http://http://www.craigsplates.com/order/order.php

i really want to get some black Acrylic UK old style plates for my Jetta (with my combo on it).. But am not sure if it's worth the risk and penalty of getting caught.

i cant see what was so bad.. you just kept your standard issue rego number and had it reprinted on german euro plates (which looked freaking sweet)

the real reason they were pissed off was you didnt fork out $500 odd for DPI to stamp you out a set

The problem is that the law as it stands is that you have to fit government issued number plates with a certain style, font, colour and design. The UK and some other countries allow you get plates from a number of different places (like craigsplates listed above) in specific designs and styles.

Fitting a plate from a different country even if it does have the same registration number is illegal for many reasons of which the main is identification of the car and what state it's from.

They have a lot of problems in the UK with people having made up plates that don't meet the requirements from non registered manufacturers, these plates are often not readable by ANPR systems but can also be hard to read when looking at them.

Here's a good one for ya.. When I bought my Black Jetta, I enquired about upgrading my standard color euro plates to black ones. The operator the only black euro plates available are in slimline (which i didn't want).

He told me the reason for this was because it didn't pass safety camera (speed, red light, etc) tests. Which if found ridiculous as all I wanted was a full size, black euro plate... Exactly the same color scheme as the slimline, so i didn't see that as a genuine excuse.

                Nice work.

While they spend time tracking down "illegal" number plates on cars, they don't have time to chase the motorcyclists down who have Fender Elimators.
