For those who know that I had the original euro plates from germany on my GTI, well i FINALLY got pulled over on roe hwy in hazlemere on saturday for having illegal plates on my car.
So the cops seized the plates & i was driving with no plates on my car from the swan valley to mozzie park (hours drive) hehe i had those plates on for well over a year now... thank goodness they didnt say anything about my tints or tyres anyway getting them back hopefully after writing to DPI.

So what's the penalty for something like that? I imagine they wouldn't take too kindly to it, since you could have been through a few speed cameras, done some bank jobs, etc. with them on.

If I had done the same thing in SA (ie run Euro plates) I wouldnt have lasted more than a day I reckon. Cops seem really strict over here regarding things like that!!

                      Good on ya though mate

i had my number plates taken off the car many years ago as i was pulled over for a licence check etc... they ran the plates through their system and told me that it wasn't registered, even though i had a rego sticker and it was stamped with the vicroads stamp and receipted (back in the days when they did this to the sticker before you could put it on the car). so i stated all of this to the cunstable and he says "nope... doesn't mean a thing... our system says you are not registered" so then they come out with the screwdriver and remove the plates.
i had to stuff around the next day and get a letter from vicroads stating that in fact it was registered and then retrieve the plates from the local police station. at vicroads the chick told me the cops cant take the plates off coz they dont own them, in affect they are stealing your property. i looked at her and said "can you write that down on an official vicroads letterhead and sign it for me and i'll take it to the cops and report them stolen". she just smiled.
i got them back without question but it pissed me off coz i had to take a day off work to sort it out.

will get some pics up once i get them back hopefully... the numbers on the plate are the same as my original numbers, but not the correct plate. The plates are exactly the same as ones found in europe- mine had a 'D' for deutschland - and the cops said all plates in wa have to have western australia or wa on it somewhere or the swan pic on it, like the ever expensive supposedly 'pretend' euro plates that they want us to pay $700 for.
although the gti looked sic without the number plate on the front - had forgotten how good it looked
