Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • RNS510 into R32?

I am considering getting the RNS510 for a 2007 R32. I've seen prices locally are quite expensive - what is the cheapest anyone have got one locally for? I see install is like $300-400 but install can be done yourself quite easily? anyone done this?

Finally I see the RNS510 can be purchased overseas - mainly europe. Anyone done this? other then maps is it the same version as locally? could get from USA also?

Also - do I get the full functionality putting it in after then if it came with it from the factory? eg. wheel controls etc Can firmware updates be done? are the hardware models different in revision? Thanks

Yes, install yourself, easy. $300-$400 is a total rip off when it only takes about an hour.

Yes purchased from Europe, Euro version is what you want for AU. You dont want the USA version.

Full function, yes. Firmware updates, yes at your own risk some units have had a problem with this. Hardware versions, yes there was a RevA and RevB

Do a search and you will find alot of info on the RNS510. Including the details of the guy in Europe to buy from, Tommy.

Also try the golfmkV forum for an alternative to the RNS called the W6050. The W6050 sounds like a mean bit of kit and i'm hoping to purchase one myself (fingers crossed the boss says yes hehe)
