Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Best Springs for KONI FSD's

Ok, So I have a set of koni FSD's but am unsure of what springs to get to match. I've heard you cant go too low as the valves in the FSD's break and are not designed to go below a 1.5" drop.

So, I'm down to a choice between H&R springs (currently 20% off - $550) or the Eibach (price unknown apparently ~650ish). I understand both are progressive rate springs but apart from that I dont have a clue.

All I know is I like to in the twisties

im pretty sure the FSDs and Eibach Pro Cup Kit can be purchased as a kit so maybe them??

I also think Rennenhaus sells these with Neuspeed springs.

I am also looking at these for my R32, so any other input would be great!!

I bought Eibach springs from JKM performance in the UK (when our dollar was a little higher), for $400 inc. (3 day) delivery - if you think $650 is a bit pricey.

I got this email from eibach a few days ago:

We have a Eibach Sportline kit available that suits the GT 2.0Ltr TDI,
and DSG, it lowers the car approximately 20 to 25mm in the front and
20mm in the rear. The price of the kit is $620.00 plus 10% GST and
delivery, they can be fitted with the original dampers

Yah but the GTI springs should be the same price.

ARE the GTIs actually lower than the GTs?

maybe go ask WhiteJames on golfmkv. he seems to be the suspension guru over there. I know he had the FSD on his car before he changed to the KW V3s.

No. Originally i was running the FSD's but these crapped themselves so after much discussion and waiting for answers from my supplier i changed the FSD's over for Koni Yellows.

                          Ahhhh ok ok.

Is there a difference in the ride characteristics between the FSD and the Yellows? I'm assuming the Yellows are cheaper as well.

The impression i was given is that the yellows are more expensive but im not sure.

As for ride, the yellows are better in IMO. General comfort wise the yellows are no worse than the FSD's, if anything i think theyre a bit better.

The FSD's were a bit harsh sometimes on the return where they would sort of bounce you back out of a dip but the yellows feel alot more smoother.

                            Yellows are also adjustable.
