Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dipping mirror acting strangly

    Hi Guys,

I have set my left mirror to dip when reversing and this works fine. However, I find that sometimes when the mirror goes back to its original position, its aimed a little lower than what I usually set it at.

Is there a setting to make it go back to my proper setting when its finished reversing?

I've only been using mine for a couple of months, I haven't noticed this as an issue yet.

Using your logic then does it continue to get lower every time, therefore eventually it's normal position will be pointing as down as possible ?

I have the same problem... At first I thought it was my imagination but now i've realised it doesn't go back to its original position.

      I also drive a 2008 Jetta. But it's a TDI

It doesnt go lower each time. Its like its remembered a slightly lower setting to my normal setting and reverts to that instead each time I am finished reversing.

Are you using two different keys/remotes to drive your car ?

It is possible there are two different mirror settings, one for each key. I read on the briskoda site that some of the the MFD settings are remembered separately for each key, so that may be happening for the mirror too.

Nope, I am just using one key.

Also, Im not 100% sure but I don't think it happens every time. Some times it does go back to the correct setting.

I'm only using 1 key also.. And like Faisan it doesn't happen everytime.

Curious to see what's going on there....

I think it would be a different key. For example I set the button to open all doors and to my surprise it only works with that key.

Is there some way to programme the dipping mirror at all? I can't find anything in my manual, maybe resetting it will help?

It tells you in the manual how to use the dipping mirror function, this only operates if you have the genuine VW sensors fitted, if they're the dealer fitted rubbish then you're out of luck (and most likely paid $800+ for a $50 kit).

Not a different key, I've been using the same key since the day I got the car because the other one is scratched.

It must be another of those little surprise VW "features". Mine has 'headlights on in blazing daylight' - not always, just sometimes.
