Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just done mine and very happy with the result. Much cooler, whiter light. Not quite as good if say you're a pizza delivery boy without a Tom Tom and always reading a map. A very different look, which I like, and best of all no heat!

Just so you know you'll need the high intensity versions, not just the normal ones you can buy at say Jaycar, at 1000mcd they just aren't bright enough in the roof. The holders take a little tweaking and you have to adjust the wires on the bulbs to get them to work, but the end result is superb. Footwell can be lower power, I went blue there YO!

They are all T10 type, except the boot which is a festoon bullet style.

Two footwell, two in the front roof, three in the rear. I bought these ones off flea-bay:

I used the Blue Vision ones that came with all the bulbs I bought from powerbulbs in the UK.

My cabin isn't white white but it's a bit brighter and a much better colour temp. WIll try and post a pic tonight

You can also adjust the footwell brightness (and others) with VCDS (VAG-COM)

            ... or the MFD

I saw another mod where a bloke fitted red LEDs in the footwells that come on with the headlights. It gave a nice subtle glow... I want to do that at some point.

That way I can see stuff but nobody can see anything in my car from the outside. Stealth.

The blue LEDs will make it difficult to find a vein, so maybe red IS better...

                          Couple of questions, cog:
                          • do they still dim when you shut the door, or just "go off"?

                          • did you have any issues with bulb outs &c?

                          • what spec was the boot lamp that you got (the festoon thingy)?

                          • have you tried (3W) LEDs in your parkers? - apparently it can be done.

                          • do the lights go off completely, or do they stay slightly on (real dim) all the time? (I've read that this can happen).

                          Thanks in advance

                              They dim down nicely.

                              • did you have any issues with bulb outs &c?

not quite sure what you're asking, but the swap was pretty easy. Bit of fiddling with wires on the aftermarkets, and bending the odd holder, but that's it.

                              Still to do.....

                              • have you tried (3W) LEDs in your parkers? - apparently it can be done.

The led's I have aren't bright enough compared to a normal bulb. I already have blue coated parkers anyhoo..

                              • do the lights go off completely, or do they stay slightly on (real dim) all the time? (I've read that this can happen).

They are totally off, not sure why that would happen!

                              Thanks in advance
A cheap and easy mod, and I really dig it.
