  • ECU Service Reset

Sorry if this has been asked, it probably already has, i just cant seem to find it.

My display is warning me to get my car serviced. I've already had my 30000k service about a month and half ago (about 4000km).

This is the second time, first time i took it back to McGrath Liverpool and all the guy did was press a few buttons and the issue was no more. It obviously was a quick fix and now the problem is back. Would anyone know how to reset it and what sequence i should press hr/min and 0.0 buttons? Or whats the proper way of fixing the problem... without going back to vw service?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey.

This happened to me. After months of hassalling the dealer it turned out the whole dash cluster was coded incorrectly by the dealer during the car prep.

So get them to do a service reset interval with the diagnostic computer thing. If it comes back ask them to check your dash cluster coding.

Well if they didn't do a proper service reset when they did the service then no it's not a warranty issue.

If it goes any further then you would porb have to pay but i am guessing the car hasn't done it before right? The dash cluster wouldn't "un-code" itself so don't sweat it.

Mine did it from day one.

I read there was a way to reset the service interval somewhere, but I don't remember where.

              I think you'll find the method here - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=27232

It's a bit ambiguous. Does that switch off the service reminder or just reset it until your next service is due?

                    No and Yes.

The dealer can recode the car to stop this from occurring and it should take them 5 minutes and not cost you anything (take it to the dealer that does your servicing).

It just turns it off for a while, then from past experience, it just comes back on... im interested in knowing how to do it, but not that keen on doing it again, simply due to the fact that i know it will come back on in another month or so, or probably in another 4 or 5000km. I had Seb hook up his VAG before my warrenty expired to find any issues, so i wouldve thought that wouldve sorted out any problems but i guess it didnt.

So i may get the dash cluster checked out as benough suggested..

I don't want to switch the feature off. Just reset it to remind me when the next service is due. It would be of interest to me to know, as I'm in two minds at the moment about whether to use my regular mechanic or take the car to the dealer. I've just got over 9K km on the odometer and whilst my mechanic has diagnostic equipment, I wouldn't know if he could reset stuff like this.

I think its more like a snooze button on an alarm clock...

I only remembered seeing the thread recently about resetting the ECU, whether it's a quick fix or not I have no idea. I guess if you want it switched off long term you'd need to ask the dealer to do it for you

Its works on a time distance and oil quality principle. You may get it reset for 7,500, 15000, or 30000 kms Its a 10 second job to remove it off the MFA if it comes on before you want it to.
