Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

An extra 2-3L of oil would be best thing for you car. One of the benefits of fitting a race oil cooler to my subaru was that it increased the capacity of the system by about 800ml. Which is a fair percentage increase on the normal 5L.

It also kept the car running really smooth in hot weather as the engine oil was absorbing far more temperature each run through the motor as it was getting cooled back to under 90 degree's every time it passed through the Process West Oil cooler.

I wish there was an oil cooler kit for the TSI... sniff.
You could fit the Amsoil by-pass oil filter that would increase oil capacity by 1L and if you fit pre oiler as well another .5L aprox.

I have a nice race B&M oil cooler ready to go, just need to work out how to plumb it! More overkill than anything else really though.

It's not overly necessary for street driving, as I struggle to get much of a temp rise in the oil on a hot QLD day trashing it witless. No doubt it is hotter through the turbo itself, but overall, it seems the stock system is doing just fine, with little rise in the sump temps.

Transporter will be happy to hear me say that!

          Eureka! Finally!

Someone has finally admitted VW engineers knew what they are doing!

Australian delivered cars get the 8Z6 L MKU Hot country (engine cooling system 2) and the 0Y2 L KLZ Tropical zones options which I think are the same ones that get in the middle east so the cars should be pretty right as far as temperatures go. I've never seen the GTI's temperature move a lot even on the hottest of days (performance suffers a bit though).
