Always wear rubbers!

Hi all,

Now with the stimulas packages rolling out, im concidering getting a new set of Potenzas, since bridgestone have them out on sale. Though, I'm not too sure if I'll be wasting the money and being impulsive due to the sale, weighing on the decision since im not too sure how much rubber i've got left on my current tyres. The tyres have done 31000k on my 06 TFSI Jetta. They still seem to be good, though I've been told from my last inspection that there is some uneven wear on the inside due to alignment.

How far have people gone using factory stock tyres? And when should rubbers be changed?

Dunno if your tyres need replacing or not, but can say that my old man's 2.0T Jetta loves its rubber and gets a new pair every 9 months or so.

Currently its wearing the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric (very good) but previously has had F1 non-asymmetric and Bridgestones. I have Potenza Adrenaline 001s on my Mk4 and can't complain.

I'm at 35k, haven't been too silly, and I reckon they'll make low 40's. I rotated them at about 15k, and stopped turning ESP off as much given the rapid wear! Damn torque!

The 9 month jetta could be doing big miles A-man.

Based on the average of around 15,000km per year that's 30,000km per replacement which is pretty good.

I heard Continentals can be expensive. Anyone know how much and where you could buy them?

CSC3's (replacement for the CSC2's found on most GTI's as OEM) are around $400 in the 17" size. F1 Assymetrical's are around the same price.

In 18" for both you're looking at around $450-500 each.

Goodyear have the sale at the moment for buy 3 and get one free but don't expect a discount as they are doing a cost sharing with Goodyear on the free tyre. I paid ~$1540 for 4 F1 Assym's in 225/40/18 last week so the deal is quite good.

The F1's have topped all the reviews recently and the CSC3 has been up there with it as well so they're both good tyres. Like just about everything in life you get what you pay for.

Consider Michelin Pilot Preceda's (PP2's). Best tyres I've ever had. Handle well, quiet and long life. I found the continentals way too noisy!!

Ignoring for a moment that Mr Messy says his father replaces a pair of tyres every 0.75 years, there is a big assumption in the above comment about how far Mr Messy Sr actually drives in 9 months.
