  • Gti Pirelli Or Mrk Vi Gti

HI GUYS, If this has been discussed already, I apoligise in advance or move it or whatever.

Looking at buying gti pirelli. Costs a fair bit more than normal gti, though they are offering pretty good drive away prices at the moment. New mk vi is about 6 months away, so the dealers reckon. It's a tough call whether to wait for the new one or buy the pirelli. Now that we know a fair bit about the next gti, is it worth the wait. What do you guys reckon?

if youre gonna modify it futher id go the pirelli as its a great base to start with having a much stronger engine.
If you just wanna enjoy it as is then waiting for the new model would be the sensible choice as the V will take a bigger depreciation hit.

      That's pretty sensible advice.

The new one can be modded just as easily though, being as it's the same BASIC running gear.. But you'll be up for big BIG dollars just to bring it to pirelli level spec to begin with yeah - K04 upgrades are not cheap eh....

If you go a pirelli and mod it, even relatively mildly, you simply won't believe how quick it can be. The only cars on the road you need to worry about, are OTHER heavily modified turbos or supercars.

I'm in the same boat, if and when the Mark VI Golf GTI comes I'm worried that the GTI Pirelli isn't offered anymore, as in order one with the extras and addons that I want. Would it be the best to wait just before the Mark VI comes out and order/buy the GTI/Pirelli?

New one with the options you want will be around $50 k I reckon, Pirelli will be around $47 if you really screw them, as they don't seem to be selling that well. Last time I checked, there were still around 60 for sale, all 2008 models, so they are going to have to move them.

Pirelli all the way, in my opinion.

Oh and did I mention? They're limited edition Golf Mk5 GTIs like the 30th anniversary edition overseas as well, with K04s as stock turbos and decent extras... in short, they are and will be rare.

All pirelli's are 2008's. From what I understand, the very last of them were built in late November/Early December.

Comes down to a few simple things really - do you want the rarest of the Mk5 GTIs, sooped up to very good numbers and relatively exclusive - or do you want the later model.

Looking back 10 years from now, the Pirelli will be MUCH more sought after than the first release GTI MK6's, but when the Mk6 comes out it's going to be the latest kid on the block.

Personally I can't wait to pull up against one at the lights and leave him for dust...!!!

Does that mean you can only really buy whatever they have in stock? Am I still able to customise colour/extras/features etc?

you cannot customise. The ones that are here, is all that you can have. The blue are very rare, specially 5 door. Lots of 3 door silvers left. Some have sat nav, park sensors. All are dsg & none of them have sunroof or xenons. So considering you can't choose the exact options, colour, door combination you want, plus you are buying a car that is a year old, because when you go to sell it, they will not care when you took delivery, they will always say it is a year old. It's a tough decision. If only they were acouple of thousand cheaper, it would be alot easier to decide

I reckon the closer you leave the choice to the new GTI being released, the better the discounts on a pirelli will be. Depends on how picky you are on colours etc, but could end up saving you a bundle. Old models, even flash ones, will still be "old".
